Thanks @Aon_plc for hosting today's discussion on financial risk & forced displacement at #UNGA80. At IFRC, we look at migration & displacement holistically. The @IFRC developed a Migration & Displacement Platform, to enable a globally coordinated, locally delivered response.

Deeply concerned after Sunday’s incident, when the Ocean Viking humanitarian ship was struck by multiple gunshots. Thankfully, no individuals were physically harmed. However, this serious event has jeopardized the safety and well-being of both our humanitarian personnel and the rescued individuals on board. Today, humanitarian workers operate in increasingly perilous environments, often putting their own lives at risk to save others. Their mission must be respected and protected at all times. The Ocean Viking has long been a beacon of hope in a vast, unforgiving sea. Humanitarian operations must always be protected.

📢Why is it important for Uganda Red Cross? #Uganda is a major host country for migrants and refugees ↪️Uganda hosts over 1.5 million refugees, making it one of the top refugee-hosting countries in Africa. Migration (both forced and voluntary) is a critical humanitarian issue here. URCS must be well-prepared to support people on the move. ↪️Strengthens URCS’s role as a frontline responder URCS is often one of the first responders during crises, including refugee influxes, cross-border displacements, and internal migrations due to disasters or conflict. This workshop helps URCS assess its capacity and improve how it operates in migration contexts. ↪️Aligns with global Red Cross & Red Crescent commitments @ifrc The Red Cross Movement is committed to protecting and assisting migrants, regardless of legal status. This workshop ensures that URCS is aligned with international humanitarian standards and able to fulfill its role within the global network. ↪️Identifies gaps and improves support systems By assessing its strengths and weaknesses, URCS can: ⭕️Train staff and volunteers more effectively ⭕️Develop better tools for tracking and assisting migrants ⭕️Strengthen partnerships with local and international actors ⭕️Improve access to essential services (health, shelter, legal aid) ↪️Promotes protection, dignity, and inclusion Ultimately, this helps URCS provide more dignified, inclusive, and effective support to migrants and displaced populations, many of whom are extremely vulnerable. #MigrationWorkshopUg @ifrc @IFRCAfrica @BritishRedCross

During my visit to Jordan, I had the privilege of meeting with the @_JNRCS to witness firsthand their tireless efforts to support local communities and refugees. I had the opportunity to: 🏥 Visit the Jordan Red Crescent Hospital to learn about the high-quality medical services offered. 👩‍🏫 Observe a vocational training center empowering women through professional skill-building. 🚑 Join a volunteer emergency response training aimed at enhancing local capacity. 🧪 Participate in a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) preparedness session focused on safe responses to hazardous incidents. 🏢 Explore the Disaster and Crisis Management Complex in Madaba to assess readiness and logistics operations. Grateful to the Jordan Red Crescent for the warm welcome and for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian action in Jordan and beyond. Looking forward to continuing our collaboration and supporting their vital work
