@EricMGarcia This is still revisionism. Nobody thought of Fetterman as the progressive in the primary because Malcolm Kenyatta was running. Fetterman was the "guy with kind of incoherent politics and a working class vibe who held up a black jogger at gunpoint for several hours" in the race.

This could have been avoided. Failure to insulate every home, end reliance on fossil fuels & decouple energy prices from gas left us exposed to energy shocks. Now we must act: Cap bill rises after June. End fossil fuel addiction. Lower bills, permanently.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Energy prices will surge by £332 a year from July as the Iran war drives up the cost of oil and gas Cornwall Insight - which has a track record for accurately predicting prices - said that the energy price cap will rise from £1,641 between April and June to £1,973 from July It's up on its last prediction, when it forecast that bills would rise to £1,827. The longer the conflict goes on...

🚨 Stanford researchers just exposed a weird side effect of AI that almost nobody is talking about. The paper is called “Artificial Hivemind.” And the core finding is unsettling. As language models get better, they also start sounding more and more the same. Not just within a single model. Across different models. Researchers built a dataset called INFINITY-CHAT with 26,000 real open-ended questions things like creative writing, brainstorming, opinions, and advice. Questions where there isn’t a single correct answer. In theory, these prompts should produce huge diversity. But the opposite happened. Two patterns showed up: 1) Intra-model repetition The same model keeps producing very similar answers across runs. 2) Inter-model homogeneity Completely different models generate strikingly similar responses. In other words: Instead of thousands of unique perspectives… We’re getting the same few ideas recycled over and over. The authors call this the “Artificial Hivemind.” It happens because most frontier models are trained on similar data, optimized with similar reward models, and aligned using similar human feedback. So even when you ask something open-ended like: • “Write a poem about time” • “Suggest creative startup ideas” • “Give life advice” Many models converge toward the same phrasing, metaphors, and reasoning patterns. The scary implication isn’t about AI quality. It’s about culture. If billions of people rely on the same systems for ideas, writing, brainstorming, and thinking… AI might slowly compress the diversity of human thought. Not because it’s trying to. But because the models themselves are drifting toward the same answers. That’s the real risk the paper highlights. Not that AI becomes smarter than humans. But that everyone starts thinking like the same machine.

While we're hooked on oil & gas we're vulnerable to price shocks caused by a rogue US president. It doesn't have to be like this. Invest in renewables, insulate our homes, cut the cost of living.
Mariana Mazzucato@MazzucatoM

This week's oil and gas price shocks show how vital clean energy is for long-term security and economic resilience. To mitigate exposure to future shocks and break Britain's underinvestment cycle, we need a green industrial strategy led by an active, entrepreneurial state. This is an illegal, unprovoked and brutal attack that shows once again that the USA and Israel are rogue states. The UK must end our cosy relationship with the USA and our ongoing support for Israel.

@JucheMaxing According to the article, nobody that Amnesty International interviewed left the DPRK later than June 2020, so they probably did not know about this 2021 article written about the 2021 TV show Squid Game.

@ginsengaddict This is my favorite genre of elections cope "okay this guy *looks* popular but if we achieve 100% voter turnout in the general (in a race that hasn't topped 30% since 2005, and hasn't topped 50% since '93) his numbers don't look so big after all!" twitter.com/Zee_Perry/stat…
Zee “Ain't no Scab” Perry@Zee_Perry

If Mamdani ONLY gets the votes he received in the last round of the primary then that would be 49.8% of 2021's mayoral general election turnout, 49.14% of 2017, 52% of 2013, 49.63% of 2009. They should ask his opponents why they think an historic turnout increase would favor THEM

Ginsengaddict (just here for the NY mayoral)
When he wins, though, that'll be fraud, right?
TheJewishAlly@TheJewishAlly

If Mamdani loses, it is not fraud. It is math. Only 1.1 million people voted in the primary. That is about 23% of NYC’s 4 million eligible voters. Mamdani’s ~ 550,000 votes came from that small slice. Now look at the full electorate in a general election. • About 1 million independents did not vote in the primary • About 500,000 Republicans did not vote in the primary • Almost 2 million Democrats sat out the primary Do the simple math. Primary voters = 1.1 million. Non-primary voters = about 2.9 million using the 4 million figure. The general election adds a huge pool of people who never weighed in during the primary, and many are not in Mamdani’s base. Reality check math. • Primary win = 550,000 votes out of 1.1 million cast • General election winning target ≈ more than 2,000,000 out of 4,000,000 eligible • Gap to fill ≈ 1,450,000 votes beyond his primary tally A primary victory in a low-turnout, closed contest does not guarantee a general election win with a much larger and more diverse electorate. If he loses, it means the broader voter universe chose differently. Use a calculator if you need to check it. If he wins and low turnout happened again - then all of the city will live under socialism and shame on the non voters. Hope this helps.
