The problem with interactive edtech for novice math students is that the interactivity itself can be a source of extraneous cognitive load, especially if it’s accompanied by moving images, fancy graphics, sounds, and irrelevant gamification. Pre-worked examples that stay put, along with related practice problems to try and fully-worked solutions to check, are preferable for beginners. Solving do-able problems with pencil and paper and checking their work is precisely the kind of interactivity with math that novices need.
