@ladtonka @CraigHouston_ I don't see how he qualified to stand in the election at all. Even a graduate visa does not meet the rules

It will be interesting to see what happens when he turns up at Holyrood and is asked “what’s your National Insurance number?” If you don’t have the right to work in UK how can you be a MSP?

@CraigHouston_ I am by no means excusing this but for anyone actually wondering how he is allowed to run, he is a commonwealth citizen with leave to remain. He is not on a student visa as he has finished his PhD but rather a 3-year graduate visa with no restriction on hours you can work.

@OzgeKatip @yuanyi_z All BOTC (except those connected to Akrotiri and Dhekelia) automatically became British Citizens in 2002 under the British Overseas Territories Act 2002, so the only people remaining who are BOTC but not British Citizens are those who naturalised or registered as BOTC after 2002.

@yuanyi_z If they are all BOTCs eligible for British citizenship, isn't it theoretically possible for a Montserrat resident who is a BOTC not to be a British citizen?

@StrategyBin @allmouthand @yuanyi_z BOTCs who aren’t British Citizens can register as a British Citizen under section 4A of the British Nationality Act 1981 whenever they wish, except those connected with Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

@alxgrd20 @allmouthand @yuanyi_z You are both correct. Not all BOTCs are British citizens; but following 2002 the majority are. There are still over 100,000 BOTCs globally.

@allmouthand @yuanyi_z Yes? That confirms exactly what I said, all BOTC became British Citizens on commencement of the act.

@yuanyi_z Wrong. "Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory, and its citizens are classified as British Overseas Territory Citizens (BOTC)"

@ukhomeoffice Been waiting for years for this. Great result finally. Should be cheaper but I'll take it. I don't need the UK passport but I live here 22 years so why not

Irish people living in the UK will be able to apply for British citizenship under a new easier, cheaper route. Applicants will be subject to a more streamlined application process and won't be required to demonstrate knowledge of English language or sit the Life in the UK test.

@ukhomeoffice Any chance us suffering UK passport holders can get an Irish passport and re-open access to work unrestricted in 27 European countries?.

@PaulMcM2024 @ukhomeoffice It is actually a DUP bill. It does not make it any easier for Irish people to come to the UK. Since 1923, it has already been possible to move to the UK and start working, voting, claiming benefits, etc. the very next day.

@ukhomeoffice The is being done to help a unionist MP born in Ireland who found out he wasn’t a British citizen and would have to sit a language exam. They changed the rules for him.

@vivamjm @ukhomeoffice This is to do with naturalisation, not descent, British people naturalising in Ireland already don't have to do a life test or language test. Irish citizenship by descent is also currently more lenient than British citizenship by descent.

@DunkMontagu @ukhomeoffice The Home Office is run by Muslims for Muslims. Of course they want more Muslims brought into Britain by whatever means are available.

@FlavellG @ukhomeoffice Irish people have always been able to live and work in the UK, just as British people can live and work in Ireland, this changes nothing.

@FabianPicardo Well that's disgraceful, time to change that rule. All Brits - mainland or overseas - should be able to freely live in all the overseas territories and UK.

British passport holders who do not hold valid Gibraltar residents permits could not, previously, live in Gibraltar all year. That was never the case. Such an analysis would, therefore, be completely flawed.
David C Bannerman@DCBMEP

On the Gibraltar deal, do Schengen arrangements mean British passport holders can only spend a maximum of 90 days in Gibraltar now, whereas as before they could visit and live there all year? What is that if not a dilution of sovereignty? @DavidLammy

@krishnugget @bluwolfblitz Jesus Christ man it's the biggest and longest game in the franchise that introduces a new combat and gameplay style. Don't give me that bullshit. You're just being contrarian at this point.
