@skdh If the paper shows that string theory follows from QFT, provided maximal supersymmetry holds, is this equivalent to showing that it is wrong if maximal supersymmetry is found not to hold. You didn't address this in the video & I'm not sure Eric Weinstein's opinion is relevant.

btw, if you’re unfamiliar with the oeuvre of Tanya Tagaq, the main singer in this Juno clip, enjoy the lyrics to her song, “Colonizer” (the video for which features scenes of a burning church). In Canada, we call this musical genre, “reconciliation” youtube.com/watch?v=8LbWNi…

this is called "the juno awards" it's a hallowed annual Canadian ritual where government-subsidized Canadians pretend that ordinary Canadians enjoy listening to whatever this is supposed to be

@TristinHopper Unlike eugenics and prohibition (in Canada), MAiD has been blessed with the status of a constitutional right by the Supreme Court. I don’t see how that could fall into a convenient memory hole.

At this rate, Canadian-style euthanasia may come to be like prohibition or eugenics. An idea whose failures become so appalling we will eventually try to forget it ever happened.
John Ivison@IvisonJ

An eruption of “psychiatric euthanasia” beckons if Canada lets the MAID law stand, top psychiatrist warns. At present, we are on course to permit medically assisted dying for the mentally ill next March. nationalpost.com/opinion/john-i… via @nationalpost

I await Governor General Mary Simon's condolence video in French. Why do the Liberals hold the CEO of Air Canada to a higher standard of bilingualism than their own appointee as Governor General, who hasn't learned French after four years in the role? TBH, I would rather have the CEO of our flagship carrier focusing his scarce time on safety and reliability than language training.
Tristin Hopper@TristinHopper

Air Canada has gone 43 (!) years without a fatal incident. My entire life up to this point has been lived in a country where the flag carrier never got a single person killed in a crash. The record is a totem to what serious people can accomplish. So naturally, Mark Carney is screaming at them to instead focus on nonsense.

@aisauce_x @Sakshi50038 I’m not sure the law holds anyone. People used to enter management after years of experience. Now people increasingly seek out those roles after a few years on the job, with far less knowledge, experience and understanding.

The Peter's Law one is the quiet crisis nobody fixes. we keep promoting the best individual contributors into management then wonder why teams underperform. the incentive to rise is built in. the incentive to stay in the role you're actually good at is almost never. that's a system problem not a people problem

The 5 Most Famous Laws in The World: 1. Dunning-Kruger Law: Stupid people think they're smart. Smart people doubt themselves. The less you know, the more confident you are. 2. Parkinson's Law: You're not busy. You're just bad at managing time. A task expands to fill whatever deadline you set. 3. Pareto Law (80/20 Rule): 20% of your effort gives you 80% of your results. Focus on the few things that actually matter. 4. Hanlon's Razor: People aren't trying to hurt you, they're just being careless. That person who didn't text back? They forgot, not ignoring you. 5. Peter's Law: Good workers become bad managers. Being great at your job doesn't mean you'll be great at the next level.

Even the most credulous admirers of Noam Chomsky seem chastened by the Epstein emails. I’m less surprised given his record of arrogance & pathological dishonesty. Few non-linguists are aware of the full baneful history, which Geoffrey Pullum recounts here. nationalreview.com/magazine/2022/…

@wesyang I've always found her novels bloated, tedious, and unreadable, and that, in classic boomer fashion, she has coasted her whole life on her early work with a wholly underserved reputation. These latest asinine pronouncements from her only confirm my beliefs.

@preta_6 Nurses, lab and imaging techs etc used to move into management positions in the later part of their career. But now I see younger people entering these roles with the intention of becoming managers a few years after graduation.

My latest: No one who leaves the front lines ever wants to go back. More stress for less pay? You’d have to be insane, or a saint. The bureaucratic overlords of the health system can soothe their conscience with the party line — increasingly a comfortable lie — that their roles serve to improve patient outcomes. I am reading that, according to @NHS, 313 "women" have suffered hyperplasia (enlargement) of the prostate. This is the degree of nonsense we reach when we accede to genderists' coercion to abandon the correct use of language. "Women" with prostates, & enlarged ones to boot.
