I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the Thadou Baptist Association church leaders who were reportedly ambushed between Kotzim and Kotlen villages in Kangpokpi district while returning from the UBA Conference in Lamka. According to initial reports, Rev. V. Sitlhou, former General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention, lost his life in the attack. Several others, including Rev. SM Haopu, Rev. Hekai Simte, Rev. Kaigoulun, Rev. Paothang, and two drivers, were reportedly injured. The exact number of casualties is yet to be officially confirmed. Such repeated violence against civilians, religious leaders, and innocent people has deeply wounded the conscience of Manipur. People from every community have suffered immense pain, fear, displacement, loss of lives, destruction of homes, schools, livelihoods, and the collapse of normal life for more than three years. The Government of India led by PM Narendra Modi ji and all concerned authorities must realise that peace cannot be delayed indefinitely while innocent civilians continue to suffer. If there is strong political will, sincere dialogue, impartial law enforcement, and a time-bound security and reconciliation plan, violence can certainly be controlled and gradually ended. The people of Manipur deserve: * Immediate protection of civilians in all vulnerable areas * Strict action against all armed groups and illegal weapons irrespective of community * Free movement and restoration of normal life * Rehabilitation of displaced families * Honest political dialogue and reconciliation among communities * Accountability for every killing and attack Manipur has suffered enough. Kuki-Zo Council Blames ZUF Kamson Group, Meitei 'Terrorists' for Killing of 3 Church Leaders Lamka, 13 May 2026: — The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) strongly condemned what it called a “brutal attack” on senior church leaders returning to Kangpokpi after attending the United Baptist Church Conference in Lamka. According to the press statement, Ref: KZC/SIP/PR/050, the incident took place around 11:00 AM today between Kotzim and Kotlen areas of Kangpokpi district. Two vehicles carrying church delegates, “clearly marked ‘Mission & Evangelist,’” were allegedly ambushed. The KZC said Rev. V. Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou were killed on the spot, while five others sustained serious injuries. The Council alleged the attack was carried out by the ZUF Kamson group “along with Meitei terrorists.” The Council said the death of Rev. V. Sitlhou was “especially painful.” It noted that his mother belonged to the Rongmei Naga community and that he “played an important role in promoting peace between the Kuki and Naga communities.” Alongside the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum, he recently led peace missions between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities currently in conflict in Manipur, the statement added. “It is heartbreaking that a man dedicated to reconciliation was killed so mercilessly,” the KZC said. It is heartbreaking to see Thadou church leaders brutally murdered in Kangpokpi. The responsible group should come forward and claim responsibility before civilians start hurting each other due to assumptions. The culprits should be held accountable. The Thadou Baptist Association should know that right-thinking and peace-loving Nagas stand with them in this difficult time.

Deeply pained by the terrorist attack on Thadou Church leaders in Manipur today. Heartbreaking and unbearable. Today, these church leaders laid down their lives in service and faith to God. To live is Christ, and to die is gain. Yet one painful question remains - is this due to the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur? Due to misidentification, the Thadou people have paid a heavy price and have become the worst victims of the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur from all quarters. FYI: Thadou is not Kuki but distinct. Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) is not not part of Kuki Christian Leaders Forum (KCLF) or Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) or Kuki Christian Church (KCC).
