Conan's "In The Year 2000" on-running guest star skit was the last time I remember genuinely laughing out loud at late-night talk TV. And I will never not hear the band guy saying the tag line any time I remember the 90s—and wondering what the 21st century would be like.

@RocketPulpHack Last week I was talking to someone from a consulting firm. She mentioned listening to a song from 2011/2012 every day when she was in 5th grade. I had been working at my corporate job for 8 years.

For those of you who have missed the FarmFu Panda saga thus far, now he's explaining how the ultra deadly world of Mail Delivery has made him an expert on how farming is easy. :D Guys, guys, he knows someone who got HIT BY A CAR. I told him to google what it looks like when the human body meets a PTO shaft. Btw, I believe statistically still today farming is the most dangerous job in America, with the leading cause of death being crushed like a grape by a tractor, and even if you don't die, when you're old everything on you is broken. If you know any old farmers, let me guess, bad back, bad knees, tinnitus, shoulder surgeries, and probably some stress related heart attacks. But this 66 year old fucker who has never done any real manual labor in his life knows better than all of you that farming is easy if you just grow enough for yourself and your community and don't worry about pesky things like profit (or reality). (thanks to Matthew for FarmFu Panda, because that's perfect :D )

@BHRondeau_ @monsterhunter45 @I_Am_Yain This isn't a dick waving contest. People do run small farms successfully. Delivering mail in the rain is miserable and dangerous. Maybe not as dangerous and miserable as farming, but I had two coworkers who got run over by cars while delivering on motorbikes. (Cont)

If the women, wherever you are, just want to be left in peace, that means they don’t want you. Lots of reasons, but they all mean the same thing. If women like you, they’ll let you know. DENIABLY. Subtly. Covertly. They’ll stare, smile, ask you stupidly obvious questions, laugh at your idiotic jokes, touch your arm, stand so their boobs touch your arm, ask you unnerving questions. They’ll even pretend to be helpless so you can swoop in and “save” them. Your difficulty—and it’s not your fault—is that your generation was taught to ignore all these things. To treat all of them at face value. You don’t even know they mean a girl is interested. Even if you’re attracted, you ignore them because it’s assault. Like that stupid commercial. So work on becoming the best man you can be. Become clean, strong, masterful, manly, confident, and masculine. Women will approach because they’re attracted. That’s what “attracted” MEANS. This is how it works: You rock. Girl covertly signals. You respond. Hopefully things develop from there. Stupid crappy evil commercial.

You have to clean up the brass SOMEHOW. Shop-vacs are powerful enough. Not that I know that firsthand. And they're better than using a shovel. Plus the floor gets clean. They vacuum up "liquids."

That's better. A bit of a hint on the cover would have been nice. Even if it only showed up under, say, black light. Turn on the black light, and there's scrawl on the cover warning people of bad things or disappearances, or something. Maybe some eldritch runes. Drops of "blood," because those show up under black light. It sounded like one of those PbTA storygames and my liver started to bleed.

Well, I just got my first block on X...congratulate me! The odd thing is, this guy is (supposedly) a fellow engineer, and he's working on a very cool gun (Stoner 63) that I'm probably one of the foremost experts on the planet on, as far as design and manufacturing. He's now offering a semi-auto version of this classic gun that the Navy Seals used in Vietnam (for $3,000!), and I guess he didn't like the questions I was asking about how he intends to produce the thing. Oh, well. If he's the real deal and will actually get this thing to market, I doubt he'll do well in the gun industry if he's so easily butthurt! If he's the scammer that his actions seem to paint him to be, then good...I hope I alerted enough people that he won't be successful at it.

Sorry, but as someone who's been designing and building guns professionally for 30 years, I'm skeptical. I've spent many, many hours designing and machining parts for the Stoner 63, and like others in the industry I relegated the idea of making complete rifles to a labor of love; one which I may or may not ever complete. Even if you're going to make exact copy parts for spares to support the barely over 100 transferrable guns that are out there, it's a tough business. The stamping dies required are very expensive, and you'd need to sell a LOT of rifles at $3,000 a pop to just amortize the cost of those, let alone all the other parts, and let alone making a profit. Unless you're just independently wealthy and this is YOUR labor of love that you don't mind losing a small fortune on, I don't believe it can be done. If you're just taking a limited number of orders for $3,000 rifles without even showing the first prototype...well, we all know what that sounds like. This IS a grail gun and I'd love to see you succeed with it, but in my professional opinion the odds are slim that you will. I wouldn't put a single penny down until I see at least a rack full of complete rifles, test-firing videos, bins of parts, etc. For now the whole project sounds too good to be true, and you know what they say about that...

Remember that undead virus/bacteria I posted about two days ago? THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
Massimo@Rainmaker1973

California squirrels are eating rodents in broad daylight. In California’s Briones Regional Park, researchers observed a startling new behavior: California ground squirrels, typically known for eating nuts and seeds, are now hunting, killing, and consuming voles, a smaller rodent species in their habitat. A study in the Journal of Ethology documented 74 squirrel-vole interactions, with 42% involving squirrels stalking, pouncing on, and eating voles. This behavior, observed almost daily, marks the first recorded instance of widespread carnivory in this species. While squirrels have occasionally eaten insects or bird eggs, actively hunting warm-blooded prey is unprecedented. Student-recorded videos show squirrels chasing voles, restraining them with forepaws, biting their necks, and consuming their flesh or organs. The behavior may stem from a vole population surge—nearly seven times the state’s ten-year average—prompting squirrels to exploit this abundant protein source. Squirrels of all ages and sexes participated, suggesting a potential lasting adaptation. It’s unclear if this carnivorous trend will continue once vole numbers normalize, but the discovery reveals the surprising adaptability of even well-known animals. ["Squirrels Are Displaying ‘Widespread Carnivorous Behavior’ for the First Time in a California Park, New Study Finds." Smithsonian Magazine, 2025]

@DaddyWarpig It will be interesting to see if they just make new randomly generated movie stars, or if they will just keep rehashing old actors forever. Of course when anyone can type a prompt and get a personalized movie, do we even need Hollywood?

It was inevitable, but curse this technology. The dying of the past makes room for the young and upcoming to strive and succeed and make their mark. A culture obsessed with the past and unable to create new things is a culture that is dead and preserved in amber.

It's genuinely hilarious to me that while the Venezuelans are happy that they won the World Baseball Classic, and the Americans, despite wanting to win, aren't too heartbroken about it, Canadians are the ones freaking the fuck out like this un-loses the hockey game for them.
