WATCHING ANTI-MANLET MOVIE ‘MATERIALISTS’ (2025) WITH A LATINA WOMAN Had being ‘seeing’ a Latina woman short term while travelling, we were together one evening and decided to watch a movie. Latina woman said she wanted to watch ‘Materialists’ (2025) starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans and Dasha from ‘Red Scare’. She said she had watched it twice already. She really liked it, she wanted to watch it again, she thought it captured what ‘dating in the modern age’ age is like. Eyebrows raised. But then I thought ‘is that the one with ‘Dasha from Red Scare’ in it? Okay let’s watch that why not?’ Actually Dasha is only in about two scenes in this movie, I don’t know why she is sold as ‘Dakota’s confidant’. Asked Latina: “Have you heard of Red Scare?” “I don’t know what that is” “Have you heard of Dasha?” “I don’t know who that is” “Nevermind, yes that sounds good let’s watch it” I am writing about this because this movie is a very cynical movie, I was a bit taken by how cynical it was. Cynical in the sense that it is I think one of the first proper post-manosphere red pill pick-up artist downstream movies I’ve seen. There are lines of dialogue in this movie that would not be out of place on a looksmaxxing forum, on r/theredpill circa 2015. A repeated plot point is people describing manlets as undateable, making fun of them for being too short. Lots of dialogue too just like “I need a man who makes $200K, I can’t date a man who makes less than this, ayo he better be packing” etc., this kind of thing. In this movie Dakota Johnsons dates Pedro Pascal and at first Pedro is perfect, he is rich, good-looking and confident - he has everything. She feels insecure about this and tells him she is just a wizened old hag who is going to hit the wall soon (she doesn’t say this exactly but she basically says this). Pedro says he doesn’t care he admires her spiritedness, her thymos, and still wants to date her anyway. Dakota feels something is off though and her suspicions are finally confirmed when she discovers the scars on his legs and Pedro Pascal is forced to admit he has had leg extension surgery and is secretly a manlet. Yes, Pedro Pascal has had an entire six inches added to his height with leg extension surgery, he is secretly 5’6 and is only pretending to be 6’0. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone talking about leg extension surgery outside of maybe 4chan, maybe you have seen it elsewhere, but whatever - here it is featured as a plot point in a major motion picture. This is the last straw for Dakota, she is dating a manlet and she obviously uses it as an excuse to break up with Pedro. Pedro has this moment where he crouches down to make himself the same height as Dakota and he goes “this is my actual height, can you ever forgive me for lying to you about being a manlet?” Dakota puts her hands on his head in a very infantilising, patronising way (presumably deservedly so because he is a manlet) and says “yes I forgive you for being a manlet but we’re not dating anymore after this.” Asked Latina: “Would you date a man who was 5’6?” “I think 5’6 is close to the average height for men in my country, maybe 5’8 I don’t know” “So you would?” “It depends on their personality but I prefer them taller” “So do you relate to what they are saying in this movie?” “I mean I like men who are taller” “What would you do if you were dating a man and you found out he had leg extension surgery?” “It depends how much I like him but it helps if he is taller”
