I'm seeing Fable and co get better and better at trading.
It's hard to imagine a more efficient way to spend tokens for short-ish term returns than to run trading strategies.
What does this mean for SOTA model pricing? Will quant firms cannibalize top model use? Will they build their own AI labs and put their researchers under heavy noncompetes? Will the AI labs build out trading for monetization?
Just like how the price of HFT infrastructure (low-latency lines, FPGAs) has converged to the price of the best trading strategies that can run on them, soon token prices should just be the expected P&L of the strategies they can produce.

i took a fairly unconventional path into ai research. i did my undergrad in computer science, and then did my phd in computer science. i spent some time in big tech, and also in quant finance. but ultimately, i realized that my true calling was working at a neolab

A core issue with most “ai agents for trading” or “X startup related to trading software” is that they’re built by people who have never traded before.
That’s why they always hit the retail market because they have no access to the institutional market and are not part of that network.
A lot of the institutional products are very high quality (many are not) but overall I see a lot of firms which are doing some sort of standard Silicon Valley startup but trying to revolutionise trading with the main issue being no one has ever worked in trading or knows anything about making money.

This is so pathetic. Not only is turning 300k into a multitrillion dollar company almost impossible, but Bezos started amazon after working at DEShaw for a number of years, and raised a million outside dollars that same year (8 million the next year)
