Winning this World Cup is about more than rugby! It won't lower unemployment, slow down crime, or improve the economy, but it will plant a seed in enough people's heads and hearts that the future hasn't been written yet. We could still rescue this "game" called life we're playing as South Africans, and it serves as a proxy that the impossible is still possible. Three weeks in a row, our beloved Boks had to dig deep against the best teams in the world. Every week it looked like we were down and out and then somehow, we pulled through when it mattered most. They have created a blueprint for we can still achieve as a nation even though "it doesn't look likely". This World Cup victory is about more than rugby because ideas are powerful. South Africans are bombarded with negativity and doom on the daily, so it's easy to feel like it's all going to hell. But last night's victory serves as a reminder that the future is still in our hands. It's so easy to look at the current state of South Africa and condemn us to certain destruction, but the Boks gave us the ability to point to an unlikely victory. It's easier to believe things can get better when there's a real life example set before us. Last point. The Boks showed us one more thing. If we want the "victory" bad enough then we've got to take action. No one is going to do it for us. As citizens, we've got to do it ourselves. It will be hard, but it is possible. I love this country so much. I know you do too! Thank you to the Boks for giving us a glimmer of hope and many sore heads. We are the champions of the world. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD 🇿🇦❤️

@markhillary By Friday people are spent. The expectation on continuous output & business continues. Although the COVID era has passed the back to back calls have not. Friday I'd great for asmin, a moment to breath & just be - allows for creativity.

@MarkSham @likeatouristza Some unfiltered snaps I got a few months back on the same "start of the day" walk. Always stay Seapoint side when visiting - certainly lifts the spirits, gorgeous.

It only took five days for the big ball in the sky to finally show itself to the world in Cape Town, and I got to capture it from the Sea Point Promenade. I swear, these walks are spiritual 🇿🇦❤️ No matter what kind of day you've had, no matter what stress you're under, it all melts away when take the time to admire the beauty before your eyes. You will see that I post about the Sea Point Promenade a lot. That's because these sunsets walks provide such a visceral experience as you smell the sea air, watch the sun dip below the horizon, feel the wind blow, and hear the waves crashing. All these strangers you walk alongside you and you hear them chating away about their day or life in general. Let's face it, South Africans are feeling the heat. That's why it's so important to instil those daily rituals into our lives that take the edge off of the intensity. There's no right way to do it, but I can tell you that these walks help me in the biggest way. As I walked on that prom tonight, and as I took these pictures, I felt a deep sense of gratitude wash over me. I am so lucky to be able to experience beautiful scenery all over South Africa, and I'm equally fortunate to be able to share it all with you. Thank you for being on this journey with me. Thank you for not giving up on this wonderful country just yet. The future is unwritten and we've got lots of work to do!

@Malik_dasoo @ZakiMamdoo I can not understand how peaceful protestors who have the foresight to show @SBGroup the ills of their ways can get treated like this. So brutal, so unnecessary- protesters were packing up to leave after leadership failed to meet them & speak about change. #BeKind ...to the earth

@MinKhanna @ZakiMamdoo The real criminal here is @SBGroup @StandardBankZA who are consciously investing in that which is destroying our planet. Their response- brutally attack the peaceful protestor who is trying to save the planet. Makes sense - Not. #BeKind ... To the earth

🌍 For 3 days, we peacefully occupied Standard Bank's offices, demanding a debate on their fossil fuel financing and lack of attention to poor communities. No response. Excessive force was used against us. #OccupyStandardBank

Angelo Doyle from the @SaveSacredLands campaign was grabbed & choked by @SAPoliceService Colonel Mere. He's been held in @StandardBankZA offices for over 4 hours now. Join us using #OccupyStandardBank to demand his immediate release & to expose the brutality of this corporation.

The activists too, including our comrade, @ZakiMamdoo found themselves violently confronted by the security. All they wanted was for someone from management to come down to engage them and address their demands, but they got violence instead. Shameful @StandardBankZA! #StopEACOP!

There is something so special about Spring in South Africa. Maybe it's the sun rising earlier. Or the new little leaves starting to show their green. Or the flowers beginning to show their hues. Or maybe it's the smell. Yes, there is definitely a smell!!! And it's not the "summer" braais that seem to light up every sunset. It's the smell of Spring. You know what I mean!? Or maybe it's the warmth. Every day just a little warmer. Or maybe it's the short shorts (hello Boerboel-Broekies) and sunglasses. Or because the birds are waking up earlier… ja, even those hadedas that we love to hate are taking to the skies to squawk just a little earlier. Maybe it's the impending evening highveld thunderstorms. Or the thought that soon days will be spent running through sprinklers or jumping in pools. Spring is the promise of new hope and days filled with happiness. And I know that officially Spring in South Africa only happens on the 23rd of September, but there is no doubt that we can already feel it. And let's be honest here: do we ever do things exactly by the book? No! Not us. We forge our own path. We make Spring happen early every year because it brings us so much joy. Yes! There is something so special about Spring in South Africa - it brings happiness, harmony… and hope. And I am already feeling it. My wish for you today is that you're feeling that happy Spring feeling too! Okay. Love you. Bye.

@melindafarrell Thank you @melindafarrell - As a proud South African we appreciate your account to assist in shifting perceptions. The beautiful, friendly country has an unfortunate & mostly unfounded bad rep. Having travelled to several countries myself smart travel is always suggested.

Meant to tweet this earlier but I’ve largely been off socials for a bit. Before I went to South Africa SO many people cautioned me about safety, I think more so than before any other trip apart from Pakistan. I’m sure others have had bad experiences but mine was brilliant…
