Bengaluru has India's most expensive metro system, over Rs 75,000 cr spent for 96.1 km across 68 stations Yet it carries least people/km/day and Bengaluru's traffic is now ranked 5th worst globally So why is India's most expensive metro system the least utilised? 1/10

#repeat I am middle class in the US. My family is (easily) top 1% in India. Maybe top 0.1%. But I live 100x better life as a middle class in US as compared to rich person in India. No comparison whatsoever.

The exposure of the world to US equities is at record levels. A stock market correction would have more severe and global consequences as compared to what followed the dot-com crash. The tariff wars and lack of fiscal space compounds the problem. The underlying problem is not 'unbalanced trade' but 'unbalanced growth.' There is a need for higher growth and returns in more countries/regions of the world, not just in the US. The full piece can be read here: economist.com/by-invitation/…

Bengaluru has given opportunities, identity, and success to millions - it deserves collective effort, not constant criticism. Yes, challenges exist, but we’re addressing them with focus and urgency. ₹1,100 crore has been sanctioned for road repairs, 10000+ potholes identified, and over 5000+ already fixed on priority. Major infrastructure works are underway to make Bengaluru more globally competitive. Under the Greater Bengaluru Authority, East Corporation alone will now retain ₹1,673 Cr of its own revenues to directly improve infra in 50 wards, directly benefitting our IT corridors. With major works like the CSB–KR Puram redevelopment, Elevated Corridors, we are strengthening infrastructure for citizens, employees, and companies alike. Instead of tearing Bengaluru down, let’s build it up - together. The world sees India through Bengaluru, and we owe it to our city to rise united! #NammaBengaluru

@TopDriverIndia +1 Bengaluru has the worst roads for a large metro in India. Metro construction aside it is a museum to bad infrastructure design and road development fund leakage. I wonder how they get away with it

Traveled from Bellandur to Bengaluru airport just now. It took 1 hour 45 minutes! Insane. Plus the roads are all dug up and pot hole ridden. Sorry to say but I think Bangalore has the worst roads of India. This is not sustainable. It will create a host of health problems for commuters in the next 10 years.

The US-India spat is just very bad and very sad. But I hate to say it - Trump is doing the right thing for his country. From his perspective: "If you need my country to develop and get rich - play by my rules. Else you can do whatever you want, my doors are closed". Hes not invading India or meddling in our internal politics (something the Democrats did). He's just cutting us off. Sadly, Trump and his buddies are exposing the brutal truth about India. We cannot grow *without* rich Western markets buying our goods. That is because our internal political economy is still fucked up. Economies at our PCI can grow very fast very easily. You just need to - welcome capital and technology - setup factories by the dozen - create goods that people want, - allow capital to make money. That sets up a virtuous positive cycle of profits, investment and demand. The state has to support this with law and order, good public infrastructure (including HDI investment), fair taxes, reasonable regulation. Its really not that complicated. But growth depends on rewards accruing to producers (whether capital or labour). So that growth can compund fast. Instead India suffers from two crippling pathogens. - Socialism. - Corruption. Both of these divert the rewards from those that produce it - to parasites who leech off the hard work and investment of others. Add to this lack of state capacity and incompetence in creating basic public infrastructure and enforcing laws (abetted by corruption listed above). So we have found that simple positive virtuous economic cycle hard to get spinning fast. The richer markets abroad have been a savior. Functioning rich societies outside can buy our goods (particularly the US) - even while our own people stay largely penurious. (Europeans also suffer from one of those pathogens - Socialism - and the results are there to see as well). Shuffling GST taxes around doesn't address India's root problems (some additional deficit spending can help though - if that's what it translates to). Nationalists blaming the US and putting on a false bravado of "we have been here for 5000 years" - should ask themselves - why our growth and economy are so critically dependent on Western economies? - Why we don't have a functioning political economy? Why of all people the Marathas asking for reservations? - Why young kids want to emigrate first chance they get? - Why foreigners are cleaning the garbage in Gurgaon even while triple-engine nationalist sarkar is ruling? - Why so called nationalist politicians seem no less corrupt and inefficient - except masking their corruption with the flag? Socialists of course, should get a mirror. They are to blame for most of the problem to begin with. (The less said about liberterians the better. They are a joke stuck on "unlimited FSI" and everyone knows they are such a joke that they can't emerge from extinction levels) Perhaps a hard reckoning here is needed - to make the Elephant realize it's quite naked (even though it has a very very thick skin).

It’s been roughly three years since @Setu_API joined Pine Labs. We’ve grown tremendously and now power almost every fintech company out there. The crazy part? There’s still so much to do and we’re hungrier than ever. I’m super-excited to welcome these incredible leaders - Anand, Vijeth, Prashanth, and Ram (plus a few more kickass folks) who’ll help us dream bigger and execute better to fully realise our potential. As always, we’re thinking about what problems we can solve for the ecosystem. A bunch of cool product announcements coming soon. 😎 moneycontrol.com/news/business/…

London, like our city Bengaluru, suffered from a severe traffic congestion crisis. But they have addressed it very effectively. No, they didn’t build tunnel roads. They didn’t build more flyovers on flyovers. They addressed the root of the problem - cars. They made the city deliberately slow for cars and made it easier for cycling and pedestrians and public transport. They now have more cycles than cars. Spare a few minutes and watch this video. It’s important we learn from the world. People should start demanding more public transport from their governments. youtu.be/OunBRdTIe3w?si

@shauryashahi Amongst the large 6 metros of India Namma has the worst roads by far ..and that is true no matter who is in power. Lack of intent, capability or resources don't know but it is a blot on the IT capital of India.

@shauryashahi Outer Ring Road is an unmitigated disaster with metro construction. Even without metro construction I often muse about who designed the bridge near KRPuram - going south it becomes a funnel near the station and going north it has 2streams of traffic criss-cross merge..crazy !!

The traffic situation in Bangalore is incomprehensible. I leave for office at 9 or 9:30 and reach around 12! Irrespective of when I leave. It’s only a 6 km ride…can’t even think about taking my own car and driving in such stress, so have to book uber etc which is around 5-600 rs per ride during these peak hours. Nice that my office has hybrid model but we still have to face this every other morning…Takes all the energy and motivation of working hard out of the picture. Can only do focus work from home. Everyday we have to postpone meetings because someone is stuck in traffic. The colleagues who live 1/2 km within the office radius also face this and a long walk in the traffic is more preferable to hailing a cab. This is completely unacceptable for a city like Bangalore. I chose this city about 10 years ago over international opportunities and now I have had enough.
