@DocLanceP @realTJRoberts @KYHouseGOP @KYSenateGOP It looks like the house voted, the senate attached their amendments, the house didn’t concur, the senate receded, then the senate voted on final passage. The house didn’t vote again as it was passed clean.

@realTJRoberts @KYHouseGOP @KYSenateGOP Yes, I figured it was Party line. Thanks. I was just surprised the vote wasn't in there, which led me to be more concerned about how many OTHER roll call votes have gotten missed. It's pretty crucial to public transparency to have a full and accurate public record.

*cough and sigh* here we go: I have a lot to say about this report from @CPENews. TL;DR: recommendations to address affordability and hardships surrounding basic needs that make it harder for enrollment and retention? Throw more money at universities, put students on welfare, and help pipeline students to welfare and further exacerbate state resources. It’s *someone* else’s problem so long as the universities get their 30 pieces of silver. Tuition reform? No. Suggestion to reform internal spending to create basic need programs? No. Nothing I am astounded by CPE and the universities inability to have introspection into their little kingdoms. Firstly, the data is very resourceful and does well in mapping disparities in needs for Kentucky’s college students. Nonetheless, the data is not new nor unavailable from CPE-they copied and pasted it from Cabinet HFS. Proposed recommendations is to increasing funding for university staff to identify students who qualify for welfare, help pipe them into enrollment and hope welfare will help solve basic needs issues to foster applications/retention in public higher ed. Secondly, the political ineptitude to suggest to a Republican general assembly to follow states like Oregon and Massachusetts is astounding. Why put that in report? You’ve got to be kidding me. Do the people in this committee know Kentucky? Use common sense. Thirdly, importantly, no call for addressing basic needs by recommending to look outside and use other systems should be taken seriously without a recommendation to reform internally. Period. Students should have access all resources to address basic needs. In the same report that recognizes: Students who experience basic needs challenges are 15 times more likely to fail a course, and 25% will drop out or withdraw. Among students who pause their education for financial reasons, less than 20% eventually graduate…” but also in same report recognizing… “When students leave college with significant debt but no college credential, they find themselves further behind than when they started.” You’re also talking about impact of college affordability. No mention of tuition, lacking introspection and intellectually honest to give true account on impact of affordability issues on college campuses. CPE is empathetically correct to look at impact at basic needs and SHOULD addresses. However, no recommendation should be taken seriously-especially funding requests-to look outside and use pipe students to welfare if recommendations lacks recommendations reforms internal. Full stop. @SteveWestKY @JamesATipton @damon_thayer @reposborne @kyrudy @kysenatepres @WilliamHD70 @5boymom @RepThomasMassie @RepAndyBarr @monica_kast
