@guera58 thanks for pointing out where the corn is. I didn’t need to know since I was surrounded by it for 18 years but thanks anyway

@KevinOConnor @ryenarussillo I call it the Rodman boxout. He did this over and over on the Bulls.

The Timberwolves used a “Gortat screen” against Victor Wembanyama last night and it opened the paint for an Anthony Edwards drive and finish. @ryenarussillo and I want to see Minnesota do more of it

@GettheSave9th These recaps are so good. Thank you for all of your work!

Bullpen Notes🗒️ (5/1)
CHC: Phil Maton finally had a scoreless outing. He had a couple strikeouts. His ERA is at 12.00 right now but this was a step in the right direction. He should be a good holds guy soon. They ended up using Jacob Webb in the 8th and 9th. He picked up the save allowing only a leadoff walk in the 9th. He also got through the middle of the order. Until Palencia is back which should be either Sunday or the start of the next series pretty much any of 4 guys in the bullpen could pick up saves. Brown, Martin, Webb, and Milner. All a risky plays if you are chasing saves this weekend.
TEX: Jakob Junis pitched the 8th and Latz pitched the 9th. Hold and a save. This is what I expect the bullpen to look like. Latz was dominant tonight and he should be added in every format. Junis likely a decent holds option going forward.
BAL: The big news here was Helsley going on the IL. The game tonight did us no favors in who could be the next closer. I think it is a three man race between Rico Garcia, Andrew Kitredge, Anthony Nunez. I like there chances in that order. Garcia is probably gone at this point but the other two guys are worth looking at. Maybe tomorrow they will have a lead late so we can see how they use these three.
BOS: A somewhat rare save for Aroldis Chapman tonight. He got a couple quick outs and allowed a double but got out of any trouble. As I mentioned early this week he could be one of the top arms on the market if they dont turn it around this month.
PHI: They did there best to piss away an 8th inning 6-1 lead. It started with Jonathan Bowlan allowing three in the 8th. He was pulled for José Alvarado who gave up a couple hits and allowed Bowlan's 3rd run to score but got out of the 8th. Keller ended up taking the 9th and faced the 9,1,2. Two of those guys were LHBs. He allowed a run due to a leadoff walk but that only made it 6-5. I haven't seen any news on Duran's bullpen yesterday but it still seems likely he will be back in this series or next and take back over the 9th inning. Tonight was not great for Keller but he probably holds a slight edge over Alvarado if Duran is not coming back.
TBR: Perfect 9th for Baker. He got out the 1,2,3. People will say it was the Giants but Baker continues to be very good as he settles into the role.
TOR: Hoffman gave up a run and three hits in the 7th. Maybe low end hold value for him but he needs to be more consistent. Varland pitched in the 9th with a 4 run lead and allowed a couple to reach but didn't allow a run. He's the closer you should have already added him.
COL: Rough night here as the bullpen blew a 5 run lead in the 7th, 8th, and 9th giving up 7 runs. Agnos was in for the 7th and start of the 8th and while he allowed 1 run in the 7th he was charged with 2 more in the 8th. Walks killed him. Hill came on in the 8th and loaded the bases with a walk before allowing a triple and sac fly that tied the game. Mejia started the 9th with a walk and allowed a homer to the next batter. Hill and Mejia remain risky holds options and really outside Antonio Senzatela who has been great and Vodnik who gets saves no one is worth rostering here.
NYM: They finally won a game and High Lev Dev picked up a save. It was his 1st since April 6 which is just yikes. Brazz in the 6th, Raley in the 7th, Weaver in the 8th, and Williams closed it out. They didn't allow a base runner. This is clearly how they want to operate and if Williams and Weaver can keep it together they should be decent options for holds and saves. That is a big if.
LAA: Normal ugliness in this bullpen. It still amazes me how much better the setup guys were with Romano getting beat like a drum in the 9th. Roles matter people. Anyway Suter gave up two in 6th with Silseth allowing the runners to score. Newish option Jose Fermin called up this week took the loss in the 7th allowing a solo homer. This is why you dont put minor leaguers in high leverage situations after a good outing. Sandlin pitched the 8th and 9th. It looks like Ryan Zeferjahn might be the leader of this mess with Bachman in 2nd but neither guy is worth a roster spot. Maybe Yates brings some stability until Joyce is ready for his chance.
ATH: They lost but it has been an impressive fall for Joel Kuhnel. He pitched in the 8th and 9th with the team down three. Not a place you would expect to see him. They did use a lot of the lesser guys yesterday but still. Harris pitched in the 5th and 6th but he has been all over the place this year. It's Jack Perkins world and everyone else is just living in it. Mark Leiter could be option 2 at the moment but go out and add Perkins.
CLE: Ugly outing in the 7th for Hunter Gaddis. He allowed all four he faced to reach with a couple walks and a couple singles. Fortunately Erik Sabrowski came in and didn't allow anyone else to score that inning. They made a great catch in center field. That left Connor Brogdon for the 8th and really an error burned him but Cade Smith was needed for the last out and he pitched a perfect 9th. Gaddis could be in trouble or he could just need more time to get into form. He's a risky play right now for holds.
SEA: The big news here is Matt Brash hitting the IL. They say nothing is seriously wrong but he does have a Lat injury. Ferrer moved into the 8th and took the loss so that was not good. Still a strong bullpen.
KCR: Daniel Lynch IV strong season hit a bump in the road here as he was credited with a blown save but picked up a win. Lucas Erceg picked up the save with no issues after they rallied in the 8th. We are still awaiting more news on Carlos Estévez but until he is back Erceg is the guy in the 9th.

@CareyCo31181651 @JomboyMedia @TalkinBaseball_ Tee ball until 9 years old. Ball in play, kids learn how to field, no falling asleep.

@JomboyMedia @TalkinBaseball_ It’s funny and all. But, bigger question is why are these young guys playing kid pitch? If it’s AI, then great. But if this is real, nobody is getting anything out of this.

Bullpen Stock Watch
Poor Thielbar. Poor Cubs (Fantrax Roster %)
Stock Up📈
Tanner Scott (67%) 1/1 so far so good
Luke Weaver (35%) Gotta be adding for speculative saves
Corbin Martin (1%) It's gross but he might see save chances. I'm leaning towards adding
Ben Brown (34%) Not sold he's gonna be the guy. Still think they use him for bulk but the 9th is open
Dylan Lee (24%) Solid holds option with Suarez closing
José Alvarado (17%) LHP option for saves maybe
Stock Watch
David Bednar (98%) Nice clean inning
Seranthony Domínguez (62%) He'll get 25 saves but he'll kill your ERA and WHIP. Good outing last night
Jakob Junis (59%) Interesting usage. Him or Latz for saves
Devin Williams (96%) It wasn't great but he didn't lose
Trevor Megill (89%) Cant go higher until the velo is back. Could have another shot at the 9th soon
Paul Sewald (81%) Tie game. Not worried
Stock Down
Caleb Thielbar (33%) Down bad if it's an IL trip
Brad Keller (40%) We might have more of a matchup based 9th than originally thought
Abner Uribe (85%) Not good. We might have a problem
Victor Vodnik (27%) Yikes. These nights happen
Danny Coulombe (3%) He can be cut
Cionel Perez (2%) Cut

@CloserMonkey I agree that Thielbar is most likely to close. In the circle of trust.

Unrelated, but I seriously have no idea what the White Sox were thinking when they built Rate Field.
The Chicago skyline is literally right there, why would you have your stadium face away from it? 🤨
