@BeanJuiceStudio From my experience 3D is harder to learn but easier to iterate, for instance you character needs a new hat in 3d you make the hat parent it to the rig and all your animations work, in 2D you now have to redraw all the frames etc..

Are 3D games actually that much harder to make than 2D? Been thinking about making one, just not sure what I'd be getting into lol

@CodeRed_dev I have players over 100 hours. Priced at $15.99. The top games in the genre are going for $24.99. I only sold 700 copies but I am still thinking about increasing to $19.99 after 1.0. I hope it is not a risky move.

Every indie dev should learn how to price their game accordingly. I sometimes see Indies with a 30 mins - 1 hour game price it for 20 - 25 dollars. I know play time doesn't determine a game's value, but players won't see that.

@squidypal @BarjiYT Because they are? The word indie is independent I.E no funds from a third party like steak holders publisher etc… not that I agree with it tbh

@KenneyNL I actually thought something similar just the other day, about how cool it would be to have like a previously on for tv shows, where you can get a recap of the story and controls after not playing for a while. Great idea!!!

Games should include a menu option like "I haven't played in a while, give me a quick 5 minute refresher on the controls"

This is not only true but also backed by real-life experiments: The parable of the pottery class just proves what you're saying... A ceramics teacher split the class into two groups, one graded purely on quantity (make as many pots as possible), the other graded on quality (make one perfect pot). At the end of the semester, the quantity group had produced the best work. Why? Because while the "quality" group sat around theorizing about perfection, the quantity group was learning from actual mistakes, iteration after iteration. Same applies to gamedev. Ship, learn, repeat.

My #1 recurring tip to all Unity devs: Make many SMALL games, not one big "dream" game. Every finished project teaches you: - Scope management - Realistic estimates - Real player feedback - What genres actually sell! If you spend 5 years working on a single game, you will only learn those lessons once, whereas if you make 10 games in those 5 years, you will learn 10 TIMES the lessons in the same timeframe! This is the closest thing to a "secret" behind long-term indie success. If you truly desperately want to make massive games then my advice is make them in parts. For example make one small game all about your Combat mechanics, then another small game about your Exploration mechanics and another one all about your clever Building system. Once you've made all 3 of those games, you can analyze what worked and what you could improve in all those individual systems/mechanics and put them all together in one massive game!

@KenneyNL I love steam and what it does for developers I think there should be some direction for this sort of thing I.e when they click review there’s something like could you find a resolution to your problem here points to faq they can still click no and leave a review but may help

Quick note: please be mindful when leaving negative reviews on Steam as they can heavily impact a game's score. If you have questions or need support, reviews aren't the best place. Opening a discussion thread helps everyone. Reviews are best kept for sharing your experience!

@Bucket_WFTFan @N_Tys26 @StevenJSharif Tbh all mmos that have come out in the past 10 years have release unfinished, why invest time in an mmo unfinished when there’s games like wow, gw2, eso, RuneScape, Albion online etc. I also think box prices is a big part of killing mmos

𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐔𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 What some players thought would be the answer to all their MMO questions has come to an abrupt end with Game Director for Ashes of Creation (@StevenJSharif) stepping down. The news comes after more than 10+ years of development and numerous crowdfunding campaigns that raised millions. It now looks as if Ashes of Creation might be coming to an end. All employees appear to have been impacted, with the latest payroll not being processed. The company has cited its financial position as the reason.

@KenneyNL @Simon_Hypixel Right? They emphasised bugs and problems etc I’ve encountered some but nothing groundbreaking, as far as early access goes was definitely one of the better ones

I'm making a few elemental weapons. But since I can't rely on shaders or particle effects (they won't translate to all the different game-engines), I had to get creative and model the flame effect for this fire sword. Turned out pretty well I think 😁🔥 #gameassets #blender3d

@bytebard28 @RadicalFishGame I'm pretty sure HTML5 canvas uses javascript tho. And I've heard that you can make limited games with HTML and CSS but I don't think it would work well for this kind of game.

@KenneyNL Hey this looks great, I noticed you’re not using a ton of real estate on this page but a collapsible side bar might benefit users with a smaller screen especially when using tools like the tilesheet creator.

I'm withdrawing from The Game Awards. It's an honor and a dream for Megabonk to be nominated for TGA, but unfortunately i don't think it qualifies for the category "Debut Indie Game" I've made games in the past under different studio names, so Megabonk is not my debut game 🥸

I understand games are getting better graphics as well as bigger and better in general. That said, optimization seems to be going by the wayside. MW2019 was about 200GB on release and that was insane. Pretty soon a 1TB HD is going to only hold one game. This is unsustainable unless hardware becomes higher capacity, cheaper & more attainable.
