Most people don’t realise where the £180 million actually went at the A303 Stonehenge tunnel project. It wasn’t construction. It was years of: • Environmental impact assessments • Heritage & archaeological studies • Legal challenges and consultations • Design, engineering and traffic modelling • Public inquiries and revisions All before a single shovel hit the ground. This is the real problem in Britain: We don’t just waste money, we build systems that guarantee it. £180 million to build nothing.
Ben Graham tweet media

The A303 Stonehenge tunnel has been scrapped after years of planning. £180 million. Gone. Not a single mile built. Not a single benefit delivered. Just taxpayer money burned. Who is actually held accountable for this?

If that road didn't exist and plans were put in to build it they would be turned down instantly. It's only there because centuries ago we didn't appreciate the history of the place or even understand it. Now we do. One A road has already been removed but the A303 being a truck road is harder to deal with.

A number of reasons, some of which the plan attempted to deal with. On a site like that it is inevitable that archaeology will be disturbed and the disruption during the works is worse than the current situation. A simple solution to the problem is to put up a fence so drivers can't slow down to look at the stones. That's what causes much of the traffic problems on that stretch of road.

@A_J_Snowden So you don't deny you've been offered a bribe and your former colleagues did too? Isn't this something that should be reported to police?

@cfdownes_ Don't be ridiculous. The war is not illegal, it is one of self-defence and there was an imminent threat.

Whatever you think of Polanski, pretty much everything he says here is true. The economic consequences of the war in Iran will reach everyone in Britain - and as Israel continues to escalate the conflict, things will only get worse. The Greens - whose policies would utterly destroy this country - cannot be allowed to monopolise the moral high ground on this issue. We have maintained from the beginning that Britain should have no part in this war. Fighting Israel’s wars for them is not in the national - or, indeed, international - interest.
ITVPolitics@ITVNewsPolitics

Green leader Zack Polanski says the war in Iran is 'illegal' '18 days ago the US and Israel launched an illegal bombing campaign in Iran' 'This was not a war of self-defence. There was no imminent threat'

@chrisbizarre2 @Gourmetdetect @JuliaHB1 It was your argument and you misunderstanding semantics isn't the point. We can get 100% clean energy generation. The manufacture of plastics is not part of that 100%.

Anyone with any knowledge at all of our energy needs says that a UK powered entirely by clean energy would be poverty stricken, with people dying of preventable diseases and hunger, unable to travel anywhere or defend our borders and sitting in the cold and the dark. But, yeah, other than that, it's a GREAT idea.
Colin Walker@colinwalker79

Latest in 'drill baby drill' news: University of Oxford says a UK powered entirely by clean energy…could save households up to £441 a year In contrast, maximising oil and gas extraction from North Sea would offer savings of just £16 to £82 independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

@__paddm236__ @afneil Pointing out that we're unprepared is not pining for war. Remember, people can declare war on you and if you're not prepared you will lose.

Anti-Muslim prejudice has no place in British society. Nick Timothy, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

@Jwantstobegin @LozzaFox Oh, the irony. He was called a racist first and responded by calling his accusers paedophiles. If his accusers won't accept that he has a right to free speech why should he accept that they do? What's good for the goose....

@LozzaFox So you defamed others by calling them pedophiles then you sued after being defamed by being called a racist then said free speech matters most? Do you actually understand what free speech means? Or like others do you just enjoy free speech based on your terms of engagement?

We need to stop trying to destroy the lives of people we disagree with. We must understand how fundamental free expression and a plurality of views is to a healthy society. We have to set the example. Never stop protecting the rights of those you disagree with the most.

I wonder what Stadlen thinks about, first thing, as he stands in front of a full length mirror in his Hong Kong Phooey underpants? Do you think it ever crosses his mind that he could be replaced with a walnut & no one would notice? 👏🏻 @MichelleDewbs

@SkyNews Absolute bollocks. Nurses were dancing in empty wards and people who genuinely needed the NHS's services were denied them. The NHS turned itself into the National Covid Service and people died as a direct result of that.
