Disasters do not wait and neither should our response. With the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, heatwaves, and earthquakes, the need for trained, committed, and responsive volunteers has become more critical than ever. Effective disaster management today requires not only compassion but also preparedness, coordination, and a clear understanding of relief and rehabilitation processes. At Drishti Foundation Trust, we have been actively engaged in disaster relief and resilience-building initiatives, providing immediate support to affected communities while also working towards their long-term recovery. As we continue to expand our efforts, we are inviting Natural Disaster Volunteers and Experts who are willing to contribute their time, skills, and dedication to support victims during times of crisis. Individuals with experience or interest in emergency response, first aid, logistics, community coordination, psychological support, and environmental recovery can play a crucial role in strengthening our on-ground impact. Your participation can make a meaningful difference in saving lives, restoring dignity, and helping communities rebuild stronger and more resilient. At the same time, we believe that long-term disaster mitigation is deeply connected with environmental sustainability. Healthy ecosystems, especially restored waterbodies and rivers, play a vital role in reducing disaster risks and enhancing climate resilience. We also invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to collaborate with us, not only in disaster response and volunteering but also in our ongoing initiatives for the rejuvenation of waterbodies and rivers. Creating green spaces is not just about planting trees,it is about building ecosystems for the future. Drishti Foundation Trust, in association with Government Senior Secondary School, Jharsa, and with the valued support of @benetton_india , successfully organized a tree plantation initiative focused on ecological restoration and biodiversity enhancement. In this collaborative effort, school students, faculty members, and corporate volunteers came together to plant more than 100 indigenous plant species within the school campus. The use of native species ensures higher survival rates, better adaptation to local climatic conditions, and stronger support for local biodiversity including birds, pollinators, and soil microorganisms. Beyond plantation, the initiative served as a living environmental classroom sensitizing young minds about sustainability, climate action, and the importance of nurturing nature. Such engagements are critical in building environmental stewardship and long-term community ownership. At Drishti Foundation Trust, we believe that every plantation must contribute to a self-sustaining ecosystem, not just increase green cover. By integrating community participation, scientific planning, and CSR collaboration, we aim to create measurable and lasting environmental impact. We extend our sincere gratitude to Benetton India Private Limited for their commitment to sustainability, and to the school administration and students for their enthusiastic participation in making this initiative meaningful. We invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to join hands with us in the rejuvenation of waterbodies and rivers, and to be part of impactful environmental initiatives that go beyond numbers and create real change. Together, let’s nurture ecosystems, not just plant trees. The presence of the Laughing Dove (Spilopelia senegalensis) in our cities is a subtle yet powerful indicator of urban ecological balance and biodiversity resilience. Commonly observed in gardens, parks, and peri-urban landscapes, the Laughing Dove has successfully adapted to human-dominated environments. Its soft cooing and calm behavior often go unnoticed, yet its ecological role is significant. As a granivorous bird, it contributes to seed dispersal, aiding in the regeneration of native vegetation. Additionally, by feeding on small insects and grains, it plays a part in maintaining micro-level ecological balance within urban ecosystems. The presence of such species reflects the availability of green spaces, water sources, and relatively undisturbed habitats within cities. However, increasing urbanization, habitat fragmentation, pollution, and loss of native flora are steadily reducing these supportive environments. Protecting and enhancing urban biodiversity is therefore not just about conserving wildlife, but about designing cities that coexist with nature. At Drishti Foundation Trust, our environmental initiatives emphasize the creation and restoration of such habitats through tree plantation with native species, waterbody rejuvenation, and biodiversity-focused ecosystem development. By restoring wetlands, lakes, and green corridors, we aim to support species like the Laughing Dove and many others that form the backbone of urban biodiversity. Urban biodiversity is a reflection of our environmental stewardship. When species like the Laughing Dove thrive, it signals that our ecosystems are functioning well. We invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to partner with us in the rejuvenation of waterbodies and rivers, and in building urban ecosystems that support biodiversity and ecological sustainability. Let us create cities where nature is not displaced, but embraced. Water conservation is not an auxiliary component of tree plantation it is the foundational determinant of its ecological success. In many plantation drives, the focus remains on the number of saplings planted, while the hydrological context is often overlooked. Without adequate water availability, soil moisture retention, and groundwater recharge, plantation efforts fail to achieve survival rates, let alone contribute to biodiversity. Scientifically, water availability governs plant establishment, root development, nutrient uptake, and long-term ecosystem stability. Effective integration of water conservation with plantation through techniques such as rainwater harvesting, contour trenching, percolation pits, mulching, and revival of nearby waterbodies ensures enhanced soil moisture regimes and reduced evapotranspiration stress. This not only improves sapling survival but also accelerates the development of multi-layered vegetation structures, which are essential for supporting birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Furthermore, water-centric plantation models play a critical role in preventing soil erosion. Vegetation, supported by sustained moisture, strengthens soil aggregation, reduces surface runoff velocity, and stabilizes land thereby protecting landscapes from degradation and enhancing carbon sequestration potential. At Drishti Foundation Trust, our approach to environmental restoration is rooted in this integrated framework. Our plantation initiatives are designed alongside water conservation interventions, ensuring that each project contributes to biodiversity enhancement, ecosystem resilience, and long-term sustainability. By aligning plantation with hydrological restoration, we move from symbolic greening to functional ecosystem development. We invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to collaborate with us in the rejuvenation of waterbodies and rivers, and to implement scientifically designed CSR initiatives that create measurable environmental impact. Sustainable plantations begin with water, and thrive through ecosystems. On the occasion of Shaheed Diwas (23 March), Drishti Foundation pays heartfelt tribute to the unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and vision of our freedom fighters, including Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, whose legacy continues to inspire generations. For the past 27 years, Drishti Foundation has been working as a dedicated Research & Development Organisation, committed to nation-building through sustainable development, social impact, and community empowerment—values that resonate deeply with the spirit of sacrifice and responsibility demonstrated by our martyrs. The thought “If Bhagat Singh lived today, would freedom trend?” invites us to reflect on how we perceive and value freedom in the modern era. Their sacrifices were not for momentary recognition but for a future rooted in justice, dignity, and equality. Today, it is our responsibility to honour their legacy not just in remembrance, but through meaningful action by contributing to society, protecting our environment, empowering communities, and upholding the values of integrity and service. As we remember their sacrifice, let us renew our commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable nation one that truly reflects the ideals they fought for. Not everything that appears green is environmentally beneficial. Across India, a growing number of rivers, lakes, and wetlands are being overtaken by Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) one of the world’s most aggressive invasive aquatic species. While its dense green cover may create an illusion of ecological richness, the reality is far more concerning. Water hyacinth forms thick mats over water surfaces, significantly reducing light penetration, depleting dissolved oxygen levels, and altering nutrient cycles. This leads to hypoxic conditions, resulting in fish mortality, decline of native aquatic flora and fauna, and overall degradation of aquatic ecosystems. From a scientific standpoint, the unchecked proliferation of water hyacinth accelerates eutrophication, disrupts trophic interactions, and hampers the self-purification capacity of waterbodies. It also obstructs water flow, increases evapotranspiration losses, and creates breeding grounds for disease vectors posing risks not only to biodiversity but also to human health and livelihoods. At Drishti Foundation Trust, our environmental interventions are grounded in research, field implementation, and long-term ecological sustainability. For several years, we have been actively engaged in the rejuvenation of rivers and waterbodies, addressing invasive species infestation, pollution load, and habitat degradation. Our approach integrates mechanical and community-led removal of water hyacinth, restoration of hydrological regimes, reintroduction of native species, and continuous ecological monitoring to ensure sustainable outcomes. Importantly, our work extends from Concept Project Reports (CPR) to Detailed Project Reports (DPR), enabling corporates to design and implement impactful CSR-driven environmental programs that deliver measurable ecological and social returns. The degradation of our water resources is not an isolated issue it is a systemic challenge that requires multi-stakeholder collaboration and sustained intervention. We invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to partner with us in the scientific rejuvenation of rivers and waterbodies, and contribute towards restoring ecological balance and biodiversity. The time has come to move beyond appearances and act on ecological realities. Pune River Revival
Pune River Revival@PuneRivers·
This is not a victory, but breathing space in an ongoing struggle. The assault on Pune's green heritage will continue — 689 trees today, more dockets quietly published tomorrow. It is not only Pune but everywhere. Just look at Mumbai's mangroves, Great Nicobar, the Aravallis, the Nagarhole-Bandipur tiger corridor, the Char Dham highway through the Himalayas. The list goes on and on.😢 Commercial interests are powerful. But they are not invincible — people, if they make themselves heard, are the only antidote. Make 5 minutes of noise on social media every day to save our natural assets. It will work. Do it peacefully, do not blame or curse anyone. Just spread the word. Do not get political. #SaveVetalTekdi #SavePuneTrees

689 trees.
Incomplete documentation.
Questionable legality. And yet the process moved forward until citizens intervened. This is how casually irreversible decisions get pushed through hoping no one looks closely.
This time, people did. Next time, will the system stop felling trees or just get better at hiding it?

Water is the foundation of life yet today, it is one of the most stressed natural resources on our planet. On the occasion of World Water Day, we are reminded that water conservation is not just an environmental concern, but a collective responsibility critical to human survival, biodiversity, and sustainable development. India’s rivers, ponds, wetlands, and traditional water systems are facing increasing pressure due to pollution, over-extraction, urbanization, and climate change. The depletion of these resources not only affects water availability but also disrupts ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods. At Drishti Foundation Trust, water conservation has been at the core of our mission. Over the years, we have actively worked on river rejuvenation, pond and waterbody restoration, wetland conservation, and revival of traditional water systems. Our initiatives include desilting, removal of invasive species like water hyacinth, strengthening water retention capacity, biodiversity enhancement, and community-driven water management practices. From concept development (CPR) to execution planning (DPR), we collaborate with corporates under CSR to design scalable and sustainable water conservation models that create long-term ecological impact. Our work is not limited to restoring water it is about reviving ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, and building climate resilience for communities. This World Water Day, let us pledge to protect every drop and restore every waterbody we can. We invite Corporates, RWAs, Cooperative Societies, and Institutions to join hands with us in the rejuvenation of rivers and waterbodies, and be part of a movement that safeguards our most precious resource.
