Let me address this bc i see it a lot. Yes if you want to use bitcoin as currency you need to DIY. But most normies just want to invest in the most painless way. This is why crypto exchanges so popular despite 1970s-era trading commissions. ETFs are simply a cheaper and safer upgrade in the bitcoin intermediary. In fact, you really can't do any better. They check all the boxes and then some.
