@OaklandRooted @JacobsonOnAir Yeah dude, everyone knows. If Tampa says no to this deal the rays can find another city to give them a bunch of money and what is Tampa left with? A gold star that’s says “we stood up to a billionaire” while another city gets baseball? No thanks.
English

Why are we playing with fire? This is ridiculous. This article basically suggests that we should say no to pump our chests out and not be bullied by MLB and owners. Many other cities would gladly pay to have the Rays. This say no stuff is nonsense

@ChampaBay2025 @OaklandRooted @JacobsonOnAir Show me an economist that views the Battery in Atlanta as an asset. An economist and not a Braves or county government hack
English

@OaklandRooted @JacobsonOnAir Paying for just a stadium, is bad business. That's what the old studies show
Building a stadium with an entertainment complex (hotels, condos, office space, etc) that keep tax revenue coming in year round are great business and that's what this is.
Look up what the braves did
English

@StadiumShadow @JacobsonOnAir The Trop was sufficient to keep relocation threats away for decades. Unless the Rays can build a new stadium or do a long term extension on the Trop (a real possibility tbh) the team is gone.

@drewelgato @andrewamendola4 @PeterSchorschFL @RaysBaseball @kenbabby And it is vastly outdated. It's like critics saying the internet was a bust in 1997. What was true for a minute, isn't necessarily true for a day. The ATL/Cobb county thing is now resoundingly considered a win for Cobb County.

@repTILLYan @andrewamendola4 @PeterSchorschFL @RaysBaseball @kenbabby His academic paper on it was subject to peer review by other economists.
English

@drewelgato @andrewamendola4 @PeterSchorschFL @RaysBaseball @kenbabby Look at ATL/Cobb county. The one "economist" that got all the pub for saying the Braves milked the county was proven wrong, once the tax revenue increased dramatically. This is not a "stadium deal". This is building a small town full of tax revenue that the city and county need.
English

@jasmartinez76 @KarenJaroch @RonDeSantis @RepMcClure You left out academic, independent economists .None of them could possibly justify this boondoggle

@KarenJaroch @RonDeSantis @RepMcClure We can listen to you or an organization such as the Tampa Association of Black Affairs. Along with the chamber, mayor Castor and former buckhorn. Oh and our governor also supports this.

🚨 Hillsborough County: The Rays Stadium is Cutting in Line and Crowding Out Your Infrastructure Projects. Because the Rays deal is heavily front-loaded:
→ In FY2027 alone, 85% of Hillsborough County’s available CIT tax revenue is gobbled up by the stadium.
That leaves just 15% for roads, flooding fixes, sewers, and public safety projects that were already planned and in the pipeline.
The stadium doesn’t just take “a share” of the money.
It jumps straight to the front of the line and takes the lion’s share right from the start — pushing everything else to the back.
This is exactly what voters were promised would NOT happen.
Wednesday’s vote matters.
County Commission meets at 9:00 AM on May 20.

The fact is that Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay were historically more developed than the rest of Latin America, forming the "South Cone." This region was relatively well developed, competing with the US for European immigrants.
However, after many crises and macroeconomic underperformance, the South Cone had largely converged with Latin America by the late 20th century.
But Chile and Uruguay have mostly recovered over the past ca. 40 years and are now categorized as high-income economies again. I expect that Argentina might recover in the near future as well.

@MichaelRaysUP @_j3r3my_T @JPPetersonshow Economic studies when all is accounted for the Battery loses 15 million a year
English

@_j3r3my_T @JPPetersonshow I understand there are risks but it seems like they do not address the financial benefits a deal can provide in as much detail. For example look how well the Battery has done in Atlanta. I also believe that in order to grow revenue you need to be willing to fund large projects.
English

We’ve heard a lot from Ken Babby and Hagan but listen to Mayor Jane Castor say this MOU is a GIGANTIC STEP towards a final approval.
She was skeptical at first but has come to trust this new group and frankly loves the public return and community benefits in the deal! #Raysup
English

@JPPetersonshow She is a politician so you unquestioningly believe what her or any other politician says?
English

Yesterday’s framework MOU is a solid step forward for Tampa Bay.
The @RaysForeverHome project goes way beyond baseball. We’re talking real construction jobs, private investment coming in, a stronger tax base, and some fresh energy in the urban core.
Tampa Bay is a major league region, it’s time we start acting like it and get this Forever Home done. ⚾
What do you think?

The Debbie downer anti stadium crowd will never change their minds. But to say only the owners benefit is just completely false. So many benefit from the jobs created for those events. Local businesses all benefited and they employ local people. But there are a lot of other areas that benefited and those benefits are ongoing just from one event. This article confirms that truth. fox13news.com/news/tampa-sti…

The Rays stadium/sports district is extremely important to the Tampa Bay area for more than baseball. The NFL now requires sports/entertainment districts next to the stadium to even be considered for future Super Bowls. Miami just found out they are no longer eligible earlier this month.
If Tampa wants to host the biggest events this deal needs to happen. We get to keep the Rays, bring a world class entertainment district, and secure the biggest events going forward for all of Tampa. Win. Win. Win.
