My recent interview with @FMallicoatKTVU @KTVU (unmute for the video clip) 🌟 As we step into a #NewYear, many of us pause to reflect and renew our commitments—especially to our health. Yet studies show that only about 10% of people manage to stick with their New Year’s #resolutions long-term. 🌟 The good news? Success doesn’t have to rely on fleeting #willpower or #motivation alone. Instead, the key is to build systems and environments that make 💗 healthy choices almost inevitable. 🌟 Here are 3 #Rs: #Reduce friction for good habits: If your goal is to run or hike in the morning, lay out your workout clothes and shoes beside your bed the night before. I often roll out my yoga mat in front of the TV first thing in the morning—so it’s staring at me until I finally step onto it. #Remove temptation: For nutrition goals, simply don’t keep the foods or drinks you want to avoid in the house. When they’re not readily available, saying “no” becomes effortless because the choice isn’t there to begin with. #Reshape your identity with consistency: Keep showing up, even on the days it feels hard. Over time, these actions stop feeling like chores and start becoming part of who you are. One day you’ll realize you’re no longer “someone trying to run”—you’re a runner. You’re not forcing yourself to eat well—you’re someone who naturally chooses nourishing foods. 🌟 Small, intentional changes to your environment and routines can outlast even the strongest burst of January motivation. Here’s to a #2026 where healthy living feels less like effort and more like who you’ve become. 🌟 #AtomicHabits #HeartHealth @kpeastbayarea @aboutKP @KPCommHealth #TPMG

If you're a medical student who struggles with USMLE questions, you can still become a GREAT doctor. Real medicine is SO different from the USMLE. Board questions reward memorization and test-taking strategy. Real-world medicine rewards listening, communication, and experience. The overlap is smaller than people think. I’ve seen many students who underperform on the USMLE go on to build fantastic careers. Don’t let a score define you.

As I step into PGY-3, I wanted to pause and reflect — for myself, and for anyone just starting this journey. Whether you’re an incoming intern or halfway through the burnout spiral: ✨ You are not alone. ✨ You are doing better than you think.

If I could go back to my first day of residency, I wouldn’t give myself study tips or clinical hacks. I’d tell myself this: You’ll grow in ways that have nothing to do with textbooks. You’ll feel stretched, exhausted, uncertain… but also stronger than you knew possible.

Dear incoming interns: Remember that your attendings have been practicing medicine for years, while you're essentially getting a new job every 4 weeks. Know that your job is not to know everything. Your job is to show up, ask questions, & care deeply for your patients.

One of my attendings at children’s today asked what type of feast we typically celebrate with during Eid if my family was here. Then offered to buy the entire team lunch to celebrate/feast. Love my job and blessed to call this program home. Alhamdulillah. Eid Mubarak!

It was an honor to be invited to speak at QICC in Hangzhou, China, led by @JACCJournals Asia Editor-in-Chief Dr. Jian'an Wang. Always a delight to be around inspiring @hmkyale & my friend @DrNathanWong. Spoke about❤️risk factors control in 4.6 million KP members. @ACCinTouch
