We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/germ…

@DieterS877565 @escapedcat As far as I know, there's no other package, which doesn't require puppeteer or playwright. But, I agree that it adds complexity. At our company we use a separate NodeJS app with puppeteer for that use case. And for simple PDFs (for example: invoice) we use prawn.

@fdietz @escapedcat Thank you for the hint about Grover, but this will add Node.js to the dependency tree and deployments, which I want to avoid.

Yesterday, I asked if my wkhtmltopdf or Prawn cheat sheet is correct. I didn’t know wkhtmltopdf is no longer maintained. What’s an alternative (for RoR)?

@_swanson Very interesting! In my experience it's very hard for frontend developers to control the output. They need to know too much Ruby. Often it is also required to setup a custom config for the builder to work with a specific frontend framework.

One difference between Laravel and Rails is that Rails has a form builder DSL and Laravel does not (you just write the HTML yourself) I do think this makes it more straightforward to use other UI components in Laravel (you're already used to "manually managing forms") I really struggled to explain what the Rails form builders are buying me (outside of the beauty when scaffolding). Most of the reasons had caveats... - Automatic URL generation from model: except in larger apps with more controllers, you're often overriding - Easy handling of nested form input names: except often people try really hard to avoid accepts_nested_attributes - Nice integration with strong_params: but it doesn't require you to use the form builder CSRF protection is certainly one but not some large obstacle. And with LLMs, the raw typing required to fill out name/id etc is much improved. Anyone else re-evaluated form_for / form_with lately?
