What this leaves out is that the metre wasn't arbitrarily chosen. It was chosen as one ten-millionth of the distance from the North Pole to the equator along a meridian passing through Paris, assuming an Earth flattening of 1/334, during the French Revolution If it was completely arbitrary then IFLScience would have a stronger point. But since it was derived on specifics in relation to the Earth, we cannot conclude that the ancients didn't also do that and we merely are doing what they did because of some unrealized practicality in doing that or some ancient information (e.g. scroll, cylinder seal, hidden info) that we just don't have access to and was confiscated during French Revolution? The problem with these IFLScience and other outlets which have useful information is they operate on incomplete information or they omit things that the authors either didn't know or didn't think long enough about

The 49ers notoriously had zero injuries prior to 2014, so this absolutely tracks.

The Wizards have emerged as a legitimate potential trade destination for Atlanta's Trae Young, @TheSteinLine has learned, in a deal construction centered around CJ McCollum's expiring contract. More to come here: tinyurl.com/phzk4ahr

I don’t eat meat for two reasons. First, scientific evidence paints a path to optimal health without it. Second, very soon, AI may be as powerful and dominant to us as we are to animals. It’s prudent to keep this in mind.

With current tech in 2025 and unlimited funds, the verified human max is 122 years (Jeanne Calment). Optimistic experts like Aubrey de Grey estimate 150+ via interventions like senolytics, CRISPR, stem cells, and organ replacement. Realistically, 120-130 is achievable with elite care, but unproven beyond that. Longevity escape velocity may hit soon.

Today is my bday. If, at some point, I end up dying, you’re all invited to my funeral. I’ll rent out a venue so that you can come and tell me that you told me so. Don’t hold back. Make the most of it. Until then, it’s a pleasure to do life with you all. 💙🫡

Men, ICING YOUR NUTS in the sauna is the upgrade you have been missing. Many studies clearly show (PMID: 23411620, 18076419, 29731401) that sauna impairs spermatogenesis = horrible for fertility. Simple solution: ICE PACK down your pants in the sauna. You're welcome boys.

Me: Lakers made bad decisions, consistently Response: They were cheap Facts: They weren't cheap, made decisions (subjective if good/bad) Capped NBA - the tools to just "spend" are limited, so can't say they should be No. 1 spender when that's entirely cap contextual
DaN@Dastrunk

@EricPincus Number 7 for the 2nd biggest city in the US actually does suggest that notion. It's the Lakers. They should be 1. Low balled Lue Let Caruso walk Small front office Lakers front office going forward should be one of the best in the NBA now that they have the money.

Coffee drinkers are biologically younger than those who abstain—and that could help explain why people who drink 2–3 cups per day have up to a 27% lower risk of dying from any cause. While this doesn’t necessarily mean coffee causes a longer life, there’s compelling biological plausibility behind the link, much of it rooted in epigenetics. Research shows that coffee influences DNA methylation at 11 specific CpG sites tied to inflammation, metabolism, and age-related diseases. These changes are likely driven by coffee’s rich mix of bioactive compounds, particularly chlorogenic acids, which can act on the cellular machinery that regulates gene expression. Several studies have also found that moderate coffee intake—about 1 to 3 cups daily—is associated with slower biological aging, reflected in reduced epigenetic and PhenoAge acceleration. On average, each daily cup corresponds to a 0.12-year reduction in epigenetic age. In other words, regular coffee consumption seems to slow the ticking of our biological clocks, offering one possible explanation for the lower rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegeneration observed in habitual coffee drinkers.
FoundMyFitness Clips@fmfclips

Coffee may be the most overlooked anti-aging tool hiding in plain sight Emerging research reveals that coffee can actively slow biological aging—each daily cup consumed correlates with a 0.7–1 year reduction in epigenetic age Drinking 3+ cups daily reduces the risk of accelerated aging by 34–41% and lowers death risk from all causes (compared to non-coffee drinkers) by 27%, translating to nearly two extra years of life Even decaf delivers similar powerful benefits The takeaway is clear: Regular coffee drinkers consistently live longer
