It’s pretty funny that it’s fatigue with all things Māori but not fatigue with complaining about all things Māori.

@secondzeit God forbid we remember and acknowledge as many people as we can who were killed in and affected by war.

And that, frankly, is bullshit. The PCRF is a legitimate charity that has been funding aid and relief and food and medical treatment in Palestine for 35 years The kids have set up a petition to change the school's mind, and you can sign it here: change.org/p/organize-a-p…

So. Not to get political on this apolitical website for people having a nice time online, but my kid's friend is trying to organise a bake sale to raise $ at their high school, and the school says it's too political. Because the $ is going to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund

@PulpLibrarian A lot of films were made in NZ at this time, early to mid 80s, due to tax breaks to incentivise more production. So a really interesting variety of films in that period. Haven’t seen this one!

Battletruck (1982). A Kiwi take on Mad Max, even if the lead actors are all American. Michael Beck battles James Wainwright after the Oil Wars leave the world in desperation. Shot on the Central Otago plains of New Zealand it's all action, lots of carnage and the aforementioned battletruck smashes everything in its path. John Ratzenberger's in it too!

I really hate the otherisation of migrants from India NZF is engaging in but it is funny that the nationalist party’s equivalent of Enoch Powell’s rivers of blood is now a baleful warning of a torrent of delicious food (catered specifically towards European tastes lmao)

@SgtPepperNZ Hobbies and food can indeed be cultural but there are innumerable values to bring to them, not just western Christian values (whatever those would be…).

@gatjames @JoelMacManus I’m pretty sure the OP was putting them adjacent to “western Christian values” in his list, not saying they literally are..

@BasicBishopNZ Always weird to see the FSU types in NZ talking about western civilisation in that Douglas Murray-ish way

You can just be a cool, chill guy. You don’t have to be pro-New Zealand or pro-Western Civilisation. Just be normal.

Hearing rumours that twitter user ‘Salty Reigns’ has died after being swept away in a flood from cyclone Vaianu shortly after refusing shelter in a local marae. He is survived by his mother who said “I thought he was still in the basement”. May he rest in peace.

@gatjames I think so. Amazing how many similarities there are between Stalinism and Randism, really. The dreadful socialist realism that Stalin promoted is quite similar to the aesthetics Rand demanded. Perigo's hostility to 20thC art & music is in line with that of the CPNZ.

1/5 I'm fascinated by people whose politics or religion change drastically over their lifetime - atheists who convert to a strict religion, or communists turned Cold Warriors. Lindsay Perigo has had one of the strangest journeys in NZ politics. But has he travelled in a circle?

@SikotiHamiltonR I guess what I’m saying is, his sadism was perhaps hiding in plain sight behind a thin veneer of whatever objectivist or free philosophy he was touting.

@SikotiHamiltonR I get Sideshow Bob vibes from Perigo (not the hair obviously and he seems to have no issue with Bart); particularly his love of "high culture," his accent and his RW politics. I'll never forget him on that Willie Jackson show where he mocked what he called the "Mordi" language.
