This is the result of 75 years of brutal Zionist occupation of Palestine and 16 years of the barbaric blockade of Gaza. When people are occupied, the resistance is justified — it becomes a human right. We cannot call someone fighting for his life a terrorist. The terrorist is the one who started the occupation, not the one defending himself.” He called the attacks a “genocide paid by our tax dollars,” claimed victimhood for the terrorists’ side, and rallied his mosque politically - urging them to build power, attend protests, and support Muslim Brotherhood-tied groups including the Muslim Leadership Council (MLC) and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), along with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) and San Diego for Palestine Coalition. Just one day after the October 7 massacre, Imam Hassane posted on Instagram (now deleted): “Resistance is the only option for a people under occupation.” In December 2023, Hamas-linked AMP’s Taher Herzallah spoke at the mosque and told the congregation to make Zionists feel “very uncomfortable on campus” - explicitly urging them to follow the example of the Gazans on October 7. This is the same mosque that directly aided two of the 9/11 hijackers - Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi. Fellow worshippers helped them obtain apartments, Social Security numbers, cars, driver’s licenses, and funneled money linked to al-Qaeda through a mosque administrator’s account. A 2005 Freedom House investigation found the ICSD stocked with Saudi Wahhabi “hate ideology” literature calling for intolerance, hatred of non-Muslims, and jihad. A congressional inquiry revealed the FBI believed the mosque laundered millions in Saudi cash to businesses tied to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Jehad Serwan Mostafa - American-born San Diegan and now one of the world’s most wanted terrorists - was a regular attendee. He joined al-Shabaab (al-Qaeda affiliate) and rose to senior leadership. Imam Hassane claimed he was “shocked” by it. This CAIR operative imam justified the October 7 Islamic terror attacks as “resistance” and a “human right,” mobilized his congregation with Muslim Brotherhood-tied networks, and has led a mosque with this documented terror history for over 20 years.
