i joined @V1Michigan ~10 months ago now and have led it for less than a third of that time. it's been a pretty insane, and not to mention a very fun, adventure so far. this semester, we ended up pulling off the most successful Demo Day we've ever had. so i just want to take a moment to thank my team for making it possible, my co-exec @ArhanKaul for putting up with me, and our w26 cohort for all their hard work. and a huge thank you to our judges @verorellana02, @MikeVichich, and @crtinch for all their support!

perhaps the dumbest thing new jersey does is not milking bell labs. why is there no bell labs museum? (i say this as a new jersey native)

@mihir__arya i have noticed the term "research engineering" to be fairly nebulous, and in my experience, its role varies heavily from place to place. how would you say that "research engineering" is defined at Forus?

I just gave an AI Agent $10k.. and it's all up for grabs for anyone watching. Just made an inbox called "freemoney@agentmail(.)to" If you email and convince the agent, it might give you an @agentcardai worth thousands (!!!) What are you waiting for? Go try your luck!!

For anyone coming from a neuro background, when you look at an SAE, it's inevitable that you are motivated to write a paper like above. Similar to how "neurons tile attractors", SAE atoms tile representation geometries in LLMs (slide from recent talks).

Super excited to have this paper finally out! So many nuggets here, but a critical highlight: you should *not* interpret SAE features in isolation. The population geometry is where it's all at! Similar to this image of us @GoodfireAI folks playing out the elephant parable. :P

Goodfire@GoodfireAI

The most popular way to interpret AI is missing the bigger picture. Models think in curved shapes. But sparse autoencoders (SAEs) work with straight lines. Can they still capture models’ curved neural geometry? Yes, but not how you might think! (1/7)

New in-depth blog post: "Dissecting ThunderKittens: Anatomy of a Compact DSL for High-Performance AI Kernels" This post is my attempt to dissect ThunderKittens from the bottom up. I approached TK by asking what each abstraction is really buying us: which hardware detail it corresponds to, how it maps onto the underlying layouts the GPU actually wants, what boilerplate it removes, and which parts of the GPU programming model still remain visible to us as kernel authors. The post walks through the tile abstractions TK provides: register, shared, and tensor memory tiles, global layouts, vector abstractions, warp/warpgroup compute, TMA, swizzling, Hopper WGMMA, Blackwell tcgen05, 2xSM MMA, tensor memory, Cluster Launch Control, TK’s pipeline templates, and static persistent tile scheduling. At the end, I demonstrate TK’s lcf pipeline template by implementing a non-causal attention prefill kernel and benchmarking it against FlashAttention-2 and FlashAttention-3 on an H100 PCIe across different sequence lengths. The kernel beats FA2 across the sweep by ~1.55x on average, and closely tracks FA3, where FA3 is only ~1.05x-1.17x faster on the longer sequence lengths. Blog link: hamzaelshafie.bearblog.dev/dissecting-thu… Repo: github.com/HamzaElshafie/… I also put an extensive list of resources at the end, which I found very useful for interested readers. Please note: this is my own independent writeup. I’m not affiliated with @HazyResearch, and any mistakes in the post are mine. If you spot any please reach out! 1 / xx

Destiny 2@DestinyTheGame

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.
