@_NotA_Bot_ Trying to be fair saying $125/month. For that, you aren't guaranteed a spot. Off street, you’re typically guaranteed a spot. $125/month in Greater Center City seems like a good starting point, up from from $50/year.

Second, the permit rates listed ($125/month) in center city is much lower than market rate. The lowest I'm seeing is $245, going up to $400. This leaves a lot of revenue on the table.

Good idea here, would add a few things. First, if permit revenue is going to SEPTA, residents should get something in return like a free zone 1 TrailPass, with discounted rates for more zones. Would reduce congestion in Center City and increase ridership.
James Potts@jamespottsphl

I still believe that there are ways for Philly and SE PA to create new funding sources for transit. This was a base case analysis. Charging more for larger vehicles, expanding the coverage area, etc would increase the net proceeds.

@david_isaac86 @ninthhostage I realize that’s the case. I'm proposing that with an expanded residential permit program, there would be significantly more profits, so a large piece of that increase would get allocated to SEPTA.

@ninthhostage @jamespottsphl Some of parking ticket revenue goes to schools and some ($35m+ annually) goes to the City’s general fund. The City could send its share of parking ticket revenue to SEPTA if it wanted to.

Yesterday, Shapiro flexed, a short-term fix. SEPTA still needs long-term funding. One option, increasing the annual permit fee and coverage of residential street parking permits. Assuming 63k permits and three reasonable pricing tiers, this unlocks $49mm+/yr in revenue.

And yes, this is not how PPAs profits are currently distributed, but that doesn’t mean that can’t change. That’s what elected officials are supposed to do, change how resources are allocated to better society.

@AndyKaplin @jongeeting Does she actually not understand what market dynamics are at play here or is she just trying to speak to what her supporters want her to say?

@jongeeting There has never been more development in Philadelphia than the last 5 years. This is a disingenuous statement from a Council member who doesn’t understand. Maybe she should focus on government inefficiency like the zoning hearing board.

Appreciate the sentiment from CM Landau! Still I wonder about this logic “with low levels of new housing development, it’s time we look to the options already built.” Why isn’t the answer addressing the low levels of housing development?
Councilmember Rue Landau@RuePhilaCouncil

Housing is a human right, but finding affordable options has been a challenge for Philadelphia. With low levels of new housing development, it's time we look to the options already built -- like our empty office spaces. I spoke with @CityAndStatePA about the importance of creative reuse spaces and what's next for Philly's housing crisis.

@fifimcfae It’ll just take demand away from Uber and Lyft, not create new demand. That’s still a win. There are plenty of reckless rideshare drivers and satisfied if they were pushed out by robots. Waymo makes the roads safer, no speeding, no running red lights, etc.

@harrisonfinberg My one Waymo in Scottsdale was the calmest, most peaceful taxi/rideshare in my life. Gradual acceleration and deceleration, didn’t run any red lights. Lyft/Uber pays below minimum wage when you factor in all costs. Very few drivers make a living wage.

@Gary_Bertier @CrossingBroad Explain to me why my grandmom needed to watch the local news and know the traffic report for the entire region during her aged 80-90 years, when she only drove local roads for errands.

@CrossingBroad Their intended audience is not our generation. There’s still a non-insignificant number of senior citizen drivers who don’t use apps or even have smart phones

@Andypry @harrisonfinberg @harlanrosen Definitely some of the most reckless rideshare drivers, that’s for sure. Will be awesome have Waymo’s going the speed limit and stopping at red lights. Free traffic calming for our do nothing city council.

@harrisonfinberg @harlanrosen Exactly, Philly might have the worst uber fleet on Earth. When drivers can’t even bother to buy a $20 phone dashboard clip and instead drive around with it in their lap then I’m happy to see them replaced by robots

@broblas @JulieChangRE That occurred in far northeast Philly, which is a fairly depressed part of the city. What I boxed in green has the wealthiest zip codes in PA and some of the most expensive land psf. I’m sorry that you have so much hurt/anger inside of you that you choose to make up lies.

I’m hopeful that one day government will be effective at the basic things, such as ticketing and heavily fining anyone driving with a two month expired temporary license plate

@hammerito @alanthefisher It’s always interesting observing the difference between who’s at Pat’s and Geno’s and who is at South Philly Barbacoa a block away. If those are my options, Lamb Barbacoa is my choice every time.

@DeLatonero @___frye Condo buildings are not the same as apartment buildings. He specifically said apartment buildings, which entails a single owner leasing every unit.

@aimeebalthazar @Nexuist @___frye Condos are different than apartments. Using condos to launder money is known, but building an apartment building and intentionally leaving it vacant does not happen.

@Nexuist @___frye This happens in Panama as well. Panama City has the highest number of skyscrapers in Latin America and that's because condos are sold just to launder money. Most of the units are vacant

@DPearsonPHL I hope he eventually figures out who he wants to be. Makes ad money off processed foods (General Mills, candy, soda), alcohol, things that probably contribute to development disabilities, then raises money from the common man for said developmental disabilities.

@jchal @ErnieBrownII Poor use of Urbanist IMO. Sounds more like something said by people affiliated with the working families party or some progressives. Here in Philly, there are a lot of Pro-Housing, Market Rate YIMBY Urbanists.
