If the USA does not intend to honour the obligation to defend NATO because European countries dont join an offensive war of choice against Iran that we have absolutely no obligation to join, the USA membership of NATO is already worthless. The NATO oath to defend each other is unconditional. If you dont intend to honour it because you are offended about disagreements that have nothing to do with the treaty obligation that you have sworn to uphold, your are not a realiable ally. Tresties with you are worthless and your word means nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for the USA.

I support Europe learning to fight for itself. But then it's also time for the US to learn how to fight for itself, starting with losing access to it's oversea bases. Good luck.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Hegseth indicates reopening the Strait of Hormuz is not a core US objective: "We've been willing to lead, President Trump has led the entire time, but it's not just us. You might want to start learning how to fight for yourself."

NATO needs to hold an urgent vote among member nations to confirm or to end US membership in NATO. The US has, to NATO, become a bigger liability than it is an asset. Trump’s US is like the cheating husband threatening divorce while screwing all the wives in the neighbourhood.

"Without the United States there is no NATO, says Rubio. True. What's also true is that without the US military empire in Europe, there is no Iran War.

@mdelling @allenanalysis @anders_aslund Trump seems to fail to recognize that by leaving nato, the U.S. would lose all its bases in Europe. They need these bases for quick readiness around the globe. Without they’d have to send troops thousands of miles. They also lose hospitals for injured soldiers

Marco Rubio: “If Europe won’t allow us to use the bases we man and fund for their defense when we need them — we ought to close them down and remove our troops from Europe.” Europe’s response to being threatened: Spain: airspace closed. Italy: Sigonella denied. France: airspace closed. Switzerland: airspace closed. Poland: no missile batteries. UK: not our war. Canada: never. Germany: no. Japan: officially no. Australia: no. Rubio is threatening to pull troops from Europe. Europe already pulled the welcome mat.

Well yes they were products of the cold war. But Rubio talks like they were acts of charity on the part of the US because we pitied the poor weak countries of Western Europe. But we built them for our own benefit. They happen to be a win-win. You can make an argument for closing all those bases but it would limit America’s ability to project power abroad generally. For what it’s worth I think a more skilled administration would’ve gone to the allies first to secure, if not their approval of the war, than tacit acceptance with regards to the bases. And of course, wouldn’t have spent the last year, pissing off and threatening to invade one of them.

@allenanalysis @anders_aslund Europe should call his bluff. Those bases aren’t for the defense of Europe but for US power projection. US wants them more than Europe

As ICE Agents were busy arresting an illegal alien, an 80-year-old liberal tried to impede and obstructed them. The result was him getting sent to the floor by an ICE agent. What do you think, was this justified? x.com/ViralVideos/st…

Migrant at protest in London says immigration isn’t the problem it’s the far-right, Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson causing all the problems. Let’s remember concerned British citizens have been branded far-right for raising their concerns in the UK. She finishes off by saying the far-left aren’t the problem with over 25 arrests made at yesterday’s protest.

The reason is reliability. The system has to guarantee that demand is always met, so the price is set by the last (most expensive) power needed (usually gas) to make sure those plants stay available. But the problem is we never updated the system once cheap renewables came along. So now we have cheap energy… priced as if it’s expensive.

We’ve built cheap energy but we’re still pricing it like it’s expensive. The UK uses a marginal pricing system, where the last (most expensive) generator sets the price. That’s usually gas. So even when most of our electricity comes from cheap wind and solar, households still pay gas prices. That’s why bills haven’t fallen. Getting off gas pricing is about fixing the system by reforming the electricity market so gas no longer sets the price, building storage so we don’t rely on gas for backup, reconnecting with European energy systems to smooth supply, reducing gas demand through insulation and heat pumps, and continuing to expand renewables so gas is needed less and less. Until we do that, cheap energy will keep being priced like expensive gas.

@Suewilson91 @AndrewRemainEU To the people asking how come Norway are still getting oil….they are already WAY ahead of the UK. Over 90% of their electricity comes from their hydropower, & they are still investing in renewables. The Oil Fund they have invested is massive, & they are using the interest.
