@Joshmbivins Someone at our company recently sent like 5 emails back and forth trying to negotiate price. Seems like they basically don't give any discounts unless you're signing up AT LEAST 200+ people lol

@PhilosophyDad1 @moonbeamdreams_ 100%, was about to come into the comments to gripe about how unAmerican this take is, and "unAmerican" specifically in the sense of "good things that make america unique from e.g. Europe"

@moonbeamdreams_ If you like the egalitarian outlook that is common in America, practices like that are what developed it. Its a cultural practice that links the upper, middle, and lower class. The idea that no one is too good to wait tables is a core American value.

Once I dated a guy who came from an upper middle-class family, huge beautiful house with a SAHM and dad successful in business. His parents made the kids work restaurant jobs to “build character.” It always struck me as a very prole-coded way of thinking.
Lycurgus@GC_Strategos

My parents never encouraged me to work in high school. I remember talking to my dad about summer jobs and he said, “Why would you want to do that? You will have the rest of your life to work.”

A new (and yet so familiar) addition to the iconic closing hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links. A second cypress tree has been planted, restoring the hole to it's original design intent and reinstating the signature look golf fans had come to know until the original was lost in a 2014 storm. 30 yards nearer the green than the other, the tree sits in the exact location of its predecessor and was transported down the road from Spyglass Hill's 17th hole.

@BOnly2121 @StoolGreenie Was just talking with my dad about this. I'm OK with starting him to see if he has it, but need a shorter leash. Can't have Derrick out here bricking 3s in the 4Q when 1/2 of Scheierman/Pritchard/Hauser are sitting on the bench

Truly don't know how to get coffee with whole milk. As a mumbler, every blue-haired barista seems to selectively hear "oat", and then I've also had them question me about "regular". Genuinely #seekinghelp

so, apparently, if you stop spending time on x (the everything app), you suddenly have a lot more free time, which you can use for reading “books” which are like very long xeets except instead of making you depressed they make you intellectially refreshed

@tszzl @staysaasy I interpret as: Claude Code is *not* standard consumer SW, it's both enterprise software AND a prosumer tool used for side projects by many who work in enterprise. This kind of bush league test on your prosumers bodes poorly for Ant's understanding of enterprise.

(I'm a generally happy Anthropic customer) Guys and gals – here is the thing about enterprise SaaS. SaaS is an incredibly, deeply unsentimental business. It's so dry – let's take 0s and 1s you can't see and turn it into numbers on a screen that move data from place to place for arcane purposes. Even running, like, a conference center business is more humanistic. At least for that business you have to make decisions like putting the catered food in front of the big windows so people can enjoy the breeze. This lack of sentimentality in SaaS is why when @figma builds an enterprise brand that's even slightly whimsical and aesthetically pleasing everyone ooohs and ahhhs with impressed collective excitement. Everybody in software is so accustomed to the soulless machinery of Coupa and Zendesk and Workday that they can barely contain their excitement when someone puts a nicely-composed pastel color palette on their homepage. What has been concerning me about Anthropic for a while is that Dario is clearly deeply sentimental. He thinks about AGI and his company's role in it, he thinks about the future of humanity. This is real nice stuff, but I cannot emphasize just how much the B2B software industry simply Does Not Give A Single Shit. SaaS cares about banging the phones and running MEDDPICC and taking customers to steak dinners and enterprise change management for new features and setting up the tradeshow booth and 24/7 support and data privacy agreements and SOC2 and ISO27001 and frontend accessibility requirements and data residency and a zillion other things that have absolutely nothing to do with basic humanity, let alone carrying us into a utopian future. Because of this, I've actually recently been getting nervous that Anthropic Doesn't Get It (tm) and would make various mishaps. This latest situation, where Anthropic was A/B testing whether to include certain capabilities in their Pro plan, has strongly reinforced to me that they don't get enterprise. Consumer buyers *might* put up with this stuff. But Claude is almost universally being used as a business tool, and people who are paying their hard-earned dollars for a service *really* don't like that service being messed with. You A/B test colors, not capabilities. (By the way, I think what they did is in a grey area wrt ASC606 revenue recognition regulations / consumer transparency requirements. If Anthropic want to go public they need to lock down this kind of behavior) I'm a (generally) happy Anthropic customer, I'm pro-startup, and I genuinely hope that they figure this out.

For clarity, we're running a small test on ~2% of new prosumer signups. Existing Pro and Max subscribers aren't affected.

@patio11 I can vouch for this, I used Claude Code to audit+explain my draft return in the same directory with all my W-2, 1099, etc. and it did a good job. Much easier than uploading those all to claude.ai and hoping the chatbot parses everything

A recommendation which I have not tested for this exact task but which I feel moderately strongly about due to a closely related task: if you're familiar with Claude Code, Codex, Cowork, or other of the related UXes, use that in preference to regular chat window.

Happy almost tax day. FYI: The most dollar-denominated impactful thing I've ever done for geeks, by sum of claims in my inbox, is the piece on salary negotiation. The second most impactful, rising fast, is "Have an LLM review your taxes before you sign them."

@politico's Weekly Tax features the new @The_Budget_Lab report on the reduction in workforce at IRS. “Weakening the IRS by starving it of resources has significant consequences,” said the Budget Lab’s @NatashaRSarin. “As our work shows, gutting the IRS drains public finances, undermines tax fairness, and erodes the quality of services that an agency which touches every American each and every year is able to provide."
