If wind is cheaper than gas then why does it need a surge in subsidies?

@latimeralder Carbon dioxide is great isn’t it? Would you volunteer to stay in room with 10% CO2 to prove the point?
English

And just for folks who haven't Followed the Science, plants are MADE from CO2.
It is their food
And, just like us, the more food they have the bigger they grow.
However much you've been told to hate CO2, plants don't.
They adore it

Latimer Alder@latimeralder
Sacred of Carbon Dioxide? Think it's Satan's Gas? Why? Maybe you don't want a Greener World? You like it Grey? But I like it Green. Green is good. CO2 makes it so nasa.gov/technology/car…

@howmanytraits @ChrisGPackham @JeremyClarkson The climate change we are witnessing now is due to over two centuries of fossil fuel use. Guess which country has the highest per capita cumulative emissions
English

@ChrisGPackham @JeremyClarkson Get a grip. The UK produces less than 1% of all global emissions. If we all went 100% green, it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference
English

Couldn't have put it better myself @JeremyClarkson !
Climate change is real , and fossil fuels are killing our planet .
English

@latimeralder Do you know what caused Spain’s black out? No, I guess you haven’t a clue how the power grid works
English

@PeterDClack It is possible to measure and attribute to anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Fossil fuels and biogenic emissions have a different ratio for the concentration of carbon isotopes, specifically the ratio of carbon 13 to carbon 12
English

@SocEnvJustice I think the real problem with Camden High street is over tourism
English

Buses rerouted. Adjacent streets get the relocated traffic, all so the fashionable elite can play. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
English

@alexarmstrong Reform UK are a racist party because they scapegoat immigrants not the rich for the country’s problems
English

@JohnJohnStewart I’m not convinced floating stops generally endanger the safety of blind people. Floating stops are common in NL and DE. Any blanket rule would be a mistaken. It depends on space provided for people. The best safety for the blind would be to ban cars entirely
English

I'm convinced the vast majority of people back blind and partially-sighted people on this. It's only a vocal minority who support floating bus stops.
Vincent Stops@VincentStops
So the campaign for blind people to again be able to catch the bus moves to the Commons. Every group representing blind people want to see a halt to floating bus stops. If you can help please follow @NFBUK and write to your MP: members.parliament.uk/members/Commons
English

@SocEnvJustice @indieHackney @willnorman @VincentStops @carolewilliams Are you suggesting that only women cyclists are allowed to have an opinion about the rapidly growing number of women choose to use a bike? That the number of women cyclists is increasing rapidly and catching up with men is something to celebrate. No?
English

@john_sinha_ @indieHackney @willnorman @VincentStops @carolewilliams You realise you are addressing a woman cyclist.
English

@LittNinjaUK This is the women’s equivalent of the “Black man on a cargo bike” photo. Does @willnorman think we are fooled by his fantasy? Reality is Lycra lads frightening women by running red lights & cycling at speed on pavements. @SocEnvJustice @VincentStops @carolewilliams

English

@meadwaj It’s clear The Greens are not a challenge to reform. We need our own Poplar movement. They don’t have any leaders of the calibre of George Lansbury. They just put their candidates everywhere and get in the way of people who actually want to build resistance
English

@MatthewWielicki You don’t even use the Celsius scale. What kind of scientist still sticks with Fahrenheit?
English

It's remarkable how many people think the planet is too hot. Pure unscientific propaganda.

VEGAN⎔T⎔@cryptovegan
@OldTrapper70 @MatthewWielicki @Alan_G_Smith_BC The heat is main issue. We could turn down the thermostat with other methods.
English

@MatthewWielicki So this is a chart you created yourself. Has it been peer reviewed?
English

@latimeralder How will you deal with the extreme weather caused by climate change, which is likely to cause flooding in the Thames Valley? How will not putting on a cardigan will help?
English

@prwright55 @LostInArms @latimeralder There are many forms of grid scale back up. This can include international subsea cables to the continent, grid scale batteries, pumped hydro. They all have different capabilities. The real point is there is an ever decreasing role for fossil gas generation
English

@john_sinha_ @LostInArms @latimeralder That's true but I was replying specifically to a comment about grid scale back-up and whether it's feasible
English

@LostInArms @latimeralder Here is another graphic that explains why UK electricity is so expensive: the wholesale price is set by gas 98% of the time. Compare this with France where electricity is much cheaper

English

@john_sinha_ @latimeralder no one lives where offshore wind is - additional infrastructure thus needed
nuclear, gas, and coal generation are not intermittent like renewables are amd so do not need grid scale generation and/or storage back-up
English

@prwright55 @LostInArms @latimeralder And this is the “green” component of your electricity bill under “policy costs” in purple

English

@LostInArms @john_sinha_ @latimeralder Another factor is that grid scale back up, (ie batteries) is an impossible pipedream with current technology
