@ChampCar4Ever Well there actually was a road course at Surfers Paradise, it just didn't look anything like the street course the cars ran on

This is the other change that has been made to Qantas lounge access - complimentary passes can only be transferred to people travelling with you on the same flight. I can understand why Qantas did this given passes were trading for $50 on Facebook. theaustralian.com.au/business/aviat…

@eevblog Batteries and solar have saved us several times in the past couple of years on the north east coast of Tasmania. Great fun watching the battery increase its charge level on a cloudy day and living life as if nothing has gone wrong with the grid supply.

Power is out in the street and we didn't even know. First thing we knew was the Internet went down. Got a power company message and assumed the power was just down to the local HFC node. Only way I realized was the pool heat pump wasn't on, because it bypasses our battery. Power failures are crazy rare in our part of Sydney. Maybe we should get Starlink and be fully redundant?

It was exactly fifty years ago today that AC/DC filmed this iconic clip from the back of a flatbed truck in Swanston Street, Melbourne. And it's still a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll.

@bj_stansfield So, who is next to the plate in Lyons as a replacement? Oh no… Ms Rubenach-Quinn, hang on Mr Allan was excluded later. The distribution sheet is a bit hard to study on an iPad.

@sam_ikin @stephsmithio @Starlink @Qantas Seems like they suffer from Trump derangement syndrome, and include Elon in the fallout. Perhaps they are the final holdout for the old NBN satellites, there definitely was a service cut on my Trans Tasman QF journey last month.

The difference between standard in-flight wifi and Starlink is insane. Surprises me every time that it just *works* Our kids are going to think it’s crazy we ever couldn’t connect in the skies

@bcg1976 @eevblog Given the alternative was wireless NBN it was a no brainer at the time. Overall I think its improved over the past 4 years or so.

@eevblog It has marginally improved over time; starting from a fairly high point. Mostly latency going down further. I have been a day one customer in Tasmania starting on the waiting list for maybe a year prior.

Off-Topic - Auto Racing The Daytona 500 is the main event for this weekend - I will be glued to the TV - but there´s racing elsewhere, namely the Bathurst 12 Hours enduro, at the famous Mount Panorama circuit, in Australia. This track is often compared to the German Nurburgring, known as "the Mountain" for its elevation changes and track layout, very different from most modern circuits, and still using public roads. Here in the video we see the legendary Peter Brock, one of the most successful racers in the circuit, going on a qualifying lap for the 1990 Bathurst, at the wheel of a Ford Sierra RS 500. Just sit down and appreciate a master in its craft (Brock won the 1000 a record 9 times). He knew the track like the back of his hand. As a note, in 1989, during the qualifying, Brock reportedly fired his engine bay extinguisher. This cooled the intercooler and allowed extra performance on the straight. Remarkably, this wasn´t "illegal" - later they changed the rules. Regardless, Brock was penalized with a fine from the Australian Environmental Agency and had to pay 10K Australian Dollars

I love how the incredibly busy Mr T is always available for extended media chats when the Lib leadership is spilled. Every time. Being dumped still chaps his ass badly, obviously. Fairly sad to watch.

@TasPolitics This is a worrying development, I didn't see it in December. Perhaps worth a review in light of the Victorian relevations this morning.

@eevblog Or you vote multiple times for any random person. I still don’t think there is enough of that taking place to make a difference to the result, could be wrong though.

For those interested, Australia does NOT have a voter ID requirement. Most people do NOT provide ID to vote, they just ask for your name, address, and if you have already voted, and mark you off the voter roll. The voter rolls are then scanned later for duplicate names, and any double counts are found easily. We also don't have electronic voting machines, it's pencil and paper. But our system works because voting is compulsory. When you have almost everyone voting, voter fraud effectively drops to near zero, because you can't have more votes than voting age people.
