Just getting this out there before she’s appointed Burnham’s deputy PM later this summer. We’ve become what we said we wouldn’t and ceding any morale high ground.

I joined the Labour Party in 1993. I know exactly how rare Labour governments are, and how hard they are to win. What some colleagues seem to forget is that the public voted against chaos, ego and endless internal psychodrama. They wanted seriousness back in government. Keir Starmer rebuilt Labour from electoral ruin into a party trusted enough to govern again. That didn’t happen by accident. It took discipline, resilience and political maturity. Do we need debate? Of course we do. But destabilising a Labour government barely into office after 14 years out of power is not strategy. It is recklessness. Too many people in politics love the theatre of rebellion more than the responsibility of governing. The country is exhausted by that culture. Labour succeeds when it focuses on delivery, stability and improving people’s lives — not when it disappears into factional self-indulgence while Reform and the Tories sit back and laugh. Government is precious. We should start acting like it.

I don't think there should be a leadership election, but let me make this very clear. If there is an election, I will be voting for Sir Keir Starmer.

I like the Prime Minister, he is a good and decent man. But it’s clear from countless doorstep conversations that my constituents have lost confidence in him. Disastrous local election results across the Black Country only confirm this. 1/2

Who the hell does Catherine West think she is? Keir has led the most successfull turnaround of the Labour Party in years and is trying to do the same with the country. By going public she has given the weak opposition ammo to use, to bring down the Labour government.

@jpatley I just saw your leaflet talking about putting CCTV on the old pub site for protection, why not just pull the building down if it's so dangerous

Labour's great candidate and positive campaign in Gorton & Denton deserves to win. But it's been a horrendous by-election for toxic populism from the other two main parties in the race. Reform and Greens are either end of the political spectrum, but are as bad as each other.

@jpatley @johnleechmcr I think you'll find local councils have to pick up the pieces on the ground so should try to influence national party policy especially as Manchester is effectively a one party state run by @UKLabour

Interesting to see this on the leaflet Labour are giving out here. They completely forget to mention that every Labour councillor in Manchester, including the Labour candidate for this by-election, voted against the Lib Dem motion at council to scrap the two child benefit cap!

Tory media won't be satisfied until the Tories are back in. Lots of this is all about creating instability and pushing for an early GE.

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after. And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before. If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from Father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early, you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too. Saw this & thought I'd repost.

@TheRealJamieKay At the time of the Lucy post the government applied political pressure on the judicial system with a zero tolerance stance, of which should never happened as the judicial system is supposed to be impartial and independent

For those who don’t understand how the law works. Lucy Connolly was convicted under section 19(1) of the Public Order Act 1986. Specifically, she admitted to publishing and distributing written material which was threatening, abusive or insulting, with the intent to stir up racial hatred—or in the circumstances such hatred was likely to be stirred up.
