A classic piece from gCaptain explains why drowning so often goes unnoticed—even in crowded places—and the subtle warning signs most people miss. Required reading for anyone heading out on the water. “Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning” gcaptain.com/drowning/

AWS, is collecting my email address for the thousandth time for marketing emails really worth making it hard to find a livestream link for your webinars? Why not just... livestream without obligation?

If a service dog approaches you alone, follow it; its person might need help and the dog is trying to lead you there. I miss old Twitter, but I guess I'll still occasionally tweet these helpful tips to keep my account alive, just in case.

No newspaper article, television documentary, news report or book will ever be able to make the incredible, unbelievable inadequacy of Donald Trump as clear as this short clip does.

If you're worried about a nearby wildfire, realize that the satellites that detect fires might only pass over a given spot every several hours at most. The red dots you see could be showing where the fire was many hours ago, so be sure to also check local official sources.

I guess the new management is threatening to delete people who don't provide content, so here I am, just in case. I'd hate to lose access, since I do periodically check in on a few people who haven't moved.

If you do anything with cloud, infra, security, etc - I’d love to keep up with you. Can you reply to this tweet with your blog / GitHub / Substack / whatever is the next best place to follow you if and when this site stops refreshing?

9) The site goes dark at 4am. The oncalls have no idea what's wrong. You *need* an IMOC (Incident Manager On Call) who knows who to wake up, why, and how. Someone who understands your systems, can synthesize information at lightning speed, and coordinate a recovery effort.

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?" As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.

Is anyone using Amazon Aurora Serverless or Google Cloud's AlloyDB? How do they deal with unpredictable load, how easy is it to monitor capacity, how reasonably are their limitations documented?

@esh @GrumpyPlatform It does work; I've triggered a CodeBuild project that runs some shell commands from Scheduler. But it looks like a Universal Target can target CreateStack directly, although I haven't tried that yet!
