“When commanders who preside over documented misconduct are allowed to walk away with full benefits, it tells every officer below them exactly how much accountability matters.” Thank you @RepRaulRuizMD for demanding accountability for sexual assaults in the Coast Guard.

@jimgeraghty Based on NYT article it appears that Chavez family members knew of the sexual assaults when the ship was named. Why didn’t they say anything?

I missed this facet of the story in yesterday's Morning Jolt... gonna have to rename a U.S. Navy Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship. The January 9 Military Sealift Command “Ship in the Spotlight” was... USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE 14).

When did Julie Chavez Rodriguez learn about the sexual assault allegations against her grandfather Cesar Chavez? Why didn’t the Chavez family share this information before the NY Times article? apnews.com/article/biden-…

. @SECNAV please rename USNS Cesar Chavez. Navy assets shouldn’t be named for individuals who commit crimes.

@CGCultureChange Non judicial punishment is not the solution to sexual assault and rape…..wondering why someone thought and continue to think it is.

Why are the same leadership failures around sexual assault and harassment still happening in the Coast Guard? When senior leaders move into new roles - even overseeing academic institutions - we should be asking how they handled these crimes in their previous commands. Were victims supported? Were offenders held accountable? Or were cases minimized or quietly dismissed? How can the CG claim “zero tolerance” when enforcement is inconsistent? Real accountability isn’t optional. Culture changes only when leaders treat misconduct as the serious criminal behavior it is, every single time. Letter credit: @kdrkrepp

After I exposed the cover up of sexual assaults in the maritime community, I was blackballed. One of the few folks who stood by me was @johnkonrad @gCaptain. Instead of writing hit pieces I encourage reporters to write about John’s support for sexual assault survivors.

In a prestigious military academy where secrets rarely stay hidden, former cadets disenrolled from the CG Academy for sexual assault still grace alumni athletics rosters and receive invitations to celebrated events. Why are perpetrators still honored by the CG Academy? This disturbing pattern reveals the Coast Guard’s failure to treat sexual misconduct with the seriousness it demands. 💥Sexual Assault Is A Crime 💥 Link: cgaalumni.org/s/1043/images/… Post by @kdrkrepp

Having watched the Obama administration (Ray LaHood) cover up sexual assaults I’m not surprised when crimes aren’t prosecuted. Nor, do I assume that they will be. Recommend @jawillick look into crimes at USMMA and USCGA to better understand how SASH is hidden.

Thank you @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell for including Coast Guard sexual assault language in the National Defense Authorization Act. Thank you for mandating tracking of sexual crimes occurring at the Coast Guard Academy.

Beneath the proud banner of “Semper Paratus,” where valor should shine brightest, a brave whistleblower testified before Congress on August 8, 2024, revealing decades of hidden sexual assaults and institutional cover-ups - only to face swift betrayal through a sham investigation designed to silence and discredit her. This heartbreaking story - far too familiar for Coasties - is spreading through the Coastie network. For over a year, this whistleblower has carried the weight of relentless retaliation. Her story is painfully familiar, one shared in whispers by hundreds of survivors across the Coast Guard who have faced the same playbook: silence the victim, question their credibility, protect the chain of command at all costs. The difference this time? She refuses to be silenced. While Coast Guard leaders stand before Congress delivering polished vows of reform and decisive action against systemic failures, their true priorities are exposed in how they treat this whistleblower: a rushed, one-sided probe designed not to uncover truth, but to manufacture doubt and intimidate anyone else daring to speak. This is not accountability. This is retaliation dressed as due process - another box-checking exercise in a decades-long pattern of shielding the institution while abandoning its own people. Actions always speak louder than words. Enough is enough. Hundreds of survivors remain trapped in this torment, their trust in the service that swore to protect them shattered. Congress must look past polished speeches and flashy rhetoric, and hold Coast Guard leadership accountable for their actions - not their words. Real reform, real protection, and real justice are long overdue. Bravo to this Coastie for standing strong and doing what’s right. Please share this to reveal the truth inside the Coast Guard. @SenateCommerce @HSGAC @HSGAC_GOP
