@ramez There's a heatwave in southern california so I looked at the Flex Alert website to see if they they were gonna ask consumers to reduce use during peak periods. Graph was similar to this, tons of capacity during the day due to solar. wild caiso.com/todays-outlook

@FlickerToons @facetedcarapace Obviously I've never done this in my ICE car, but I just realized that now that I drive an EV I can just sit in the car with the AC on guilt-free. ngl kinda mind blowing

@facetedcarapace I can’t fathom people that sit in their car for their lunch break idling it with the AC on for 30 min to an hour.

@theryandreyer I'm a 'relatively' new runner (started in 2012) but the Strava era glorified training logs. Didn't someone say "they don't give out the gold medal to the athlete with the cleanest training log"? Running is literally the easiest sport to prove yourself in. Go race.

What you think people say when they see your 8:30/mile pace on Strava: "Wow, that guy is so fast" What they actually say: "That guy has been running 8:30s for 3 years and blows up at all his races"

@Lib_Development I prefer sitting as low as possible. A shorter, lower center of gravity vehicle is more stable than a tall one.

Why do people despise vehicles sized for actual human beings so much. I do not appreciate having to crouch down to enter my vehicle! High ceilings and seating positions are good and comfortable!
Vivian@suchnerve

Sedans have got to make a comeback. I am so tired of seeing SUVs everywhere! (The small SUVs get a pass, but they’re on thin ice.) ***it should be implicitly understood that robust, fast, cheap public transit would be far better than continuing to rely on cars***

@SchopenhauerOn @BTCBreadMan I mean it depends on the state. CA is Community Property, so earned income after marriage is equally owned (50/50). Doesn't matter whose name is on the bank account. I think what you're saying is that you should get a prenup.

@BTCBreadMan It would only be a no-brainer under the condition of 0% divorce rate. With divorce rate approaching 50% the real no-brainer is to not merging finances. Which is unfortunate and sad, because couples forgo the positive synergy effects of being a team.

When I got married 15 years ago the thought of not completely merging our finances did not even occur to me. It just seemed like an obvious no-brainer that married couples 100% share their financial situation.

@MikeCalcara EVs have a pretty straightforward use case IMO. If you commute and you can charge at home, it's a no brainer. If you commute but you can only charge at work, maybe. If you can do neither, it's not worth the hassle to find and use public chargers, even if it's still cheaper.

A client came to me last month dead set on a Tesla Model Y. Before we pulled the trigger, I asked him a few questions. Where do you live? An apartment downtown. No dedicated charging spot. A couple of shared chargers in the garage that are almost always taken by the time he gets home at night. How long is your commute? About 180 miles round trip, 3 days a week. Do you take road trips? Every few months. About 400 miles each way to see family. Think about what that actually looks like day to day. He gets home after a long day, pulls into the garage, and the two shared chargers are taken. Again. So he goes to bed with whatever charge he has left. He wakes up, checks his range, and hopes it's enough for the day. No charging at work either. An EV works best when you're able to charge consistently. For him, it would've been a daily inconvenience at best and a stranded car at worst. He actually needed a plug-in hybrid. Electric for the short days, gas for the road trips. He ended up in a Toyota RAV4 Prime. Loves it. This happens a lot simply because people don't have the time to research different types of vehicles. So I put together a full breakdown that takes less than 5 minutes to read. Gas vs. Hybrid vs. Electric. With real numbers on fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, and total cost of ownership across all three. Comment COMPARE below and I'll send it to you. Make sure you're following me so the DM goes through.

There is basically 0 hard evidence that airborne allergies exist outside of extremely rare circumstances In one experiment, they just straight up held 29 people 3-inches away from a thing of peanut butter and found not a single one had anything close to a reaction

@EastTNMama Oh huh. You're right, people would say like "That was a tough situation for my wife and I" but that's grammatically incorrect. I actually never thought about it before. Also, "He told my wife and me about it" sounds weird. "He told me and my wife about it" sounds better.

I just want people who are smart to stop saying “my wife and I” or “my husband and I” when it’s supposed to be me. This one is so very easy to fix. If you would say me you say my wife and me. —She and I went to work. He told my wife and me. I went to work. He told me. Let me help

@EDUreboot @GerberKawasaki You said "in most of California" which I agree on. In my specific neighborhood/city, EV home charging is cheaper. In other cities, where 87 is cheaper and home electricity is more expensive, a Prius is cheaper. I literally just did the math for you, not sure what else you need.

@EDUreboot @GerberKawasaki This is the avg in my county, in my specific neighborhood it's $5.79. I average 220W/mi driving which is 4.54mi/kW while actively driving. So the 92% charging efficiency and parked power use (sentry mode, etc) are already baked into my 99mpg calculation.

@briandstone I was getting quotes near $400/mo from GEICO, State Farm, etc Los Angeles late 30s no at-fault accidents in 10+ years no points on record etc. But Tesla Insurance was $217/mo for the same coverage.

Why in the world is Consumer Reports quoting these insane, unrealistic insurance rates for Teslas? I’ve never heard of anyone paying $400/mo to insure a Model 3.

@tavianvictor @sanpellyenjoyer yeah searches on Reddit are mentioning the same thing. I think they first removed it from the Standard, then removed it from all trims. Insanely stupid. Unless you for sure know you're going to do FSD forever, no point in getting a Tesla.

@EDUreboot @GerberKawasaki Possibly, since electricity in CA in expensive, but generally depends on if you can charge at home or not. '26 Prius is ~57mpg, '26 Model 3 charging on LADWP power ($0.24/kWh) is ~99mpg based on $5.79/gal. But on only supercharging ($0.48/kWh) it's worse, ~50mpg
