@tobinjstone I honestly don’t trust Waymos with our bike lane network. I have seen their LA fleet cut off drivers and disregard traffic markings.

I feel like I’m going crazy with some of the replies I’m getting to this. I walk to/from the office nearly every day. This is my route. There are 28 crosswalks/intersections I cross. Only at maybe 3-4 have I not seen a driver run a red. A Waymo will always stop at the red light. A human driver will not. That’s all I care about here. Why we need to discuss this further is beyond me.

My overall read on the WAPO DC mayoral poll is that McDuffie is cooked baring a scandal. He'd need to win those currently undecided by 3:1 to match JLG's first round vote total. He's poised to make some inroads into JLGs margin as a good chunk of undecided see crime as a serious problem. But it won't be close to 3:1.

People might understandably think I’m crazy for wanting to bring the graving docks at Hunter’s Point alive again. The area is an environmental mess, and estimates put the clean up cost into the hundreds of millions, or low billions. But what if that cost makes sense given the cost of constructing dry docks today? Both Pearl Harbor and Portsmouth are undergoing billion-dollar drydock projects. If we extrapolate the cost per meter (sorry for using metric) from those projects, we can estimate the value of the drydocks at Hunters Point if they were made functional again. On the low end, building these docks would cost $15.6 billion today. The equivalent of an aircraft carrier. While drydocks 5, 6, and 7 look like a lost cause beyond repair, drydocks 2, 3, and 4 appear fairly intact. They would certainly need some refurbishment to be in working order, but I’m not sure if that has been seriously considered recently. The shipyard came into existence with the construction of the 1st west coast drydock in 1867. Many ships were repaired there including ships from the Great White Fleet. It was not until 1941 that the U.S. Navy took over the location in preparation for war. They added the massive aircraft carrier drydock and famous crane which would be used to lift battleship turrets and later launch Polaris missiles. Even if just Parcel C could be saved for maritime industrial use, it would be major win for the United States. If the whole area were transformed back into a shipyard, it would be one of the largest in the United States. Does it really make more sense to turn a polluted area into a housing development with kids running around? Well, I don’t have all the answers, but I wish the Navy would take a serious look at cleaning up Hunter’s Point, even if it were turned back over to private industry. I’m sure it would be controversial, and there are a lot of valid reasons to never reactivate the site. But it’s unfortunate to watch this area lay in ruins while we are trying to rebuild our maritime strength.

A social housing mandate for 1/3 extremely low income, 1/3 very low income and 1/3 market-rate, with ground-floor retail going to progressive-aligned options like daycare — would likely mean zero housing being built. My understanding is this couldn't pencil anywhere in the DMV

The biggest shipyard in China and the biggest shipyard in South Korea both fit inside the Solano Shipyard. 6.5 miles of waterfront on a federal deep-water channel used by Panamax class, destroyer-sized ships. There are 365,000 skilled workers within 50 miles. Just sayin'.

We have a comprehension issue here. Less days on testing = more time on instruction. Not less overall days at school. Perhaps something he could have benefited from. Also any teacher eval that leads to less than 40% of the workforce lasting 7+ years in DCPS is abject failure.
