This might get me canceled. 😔 Inline C, in Lisp, whose object code gets installed straight in the Lisp image, dynamically, without dlopen, immediately callable like any other Lisp function. Example is DAXPY: SBCL producing ordinary scalar code, and gcc auto-vectorizing AVX-512.

@munohikari @GustavSterbrant @raysan5 A POD struct and fixed-size serialized format are identical concepts for me. There is no conversion required. You literally just cast the void* as the POD struct* and you’re done.

Look into Java. C# is ok too.
Try impl something simple.
Macros are ok, clang plugins + codegen are great too.
Maybe your own parser but that's hard.
You need custom field attribs (annotation, tags), not just field name->struct offset/type mapping.

I need a fun, and small enough to be tractable, non-trivial game idea to implement as game engine practice. this is proving harder than I've thought, so far I've been re-implementing things from Doom II (imps, shotgunners) and Half-Life 1 / 2 (roaches, exploding barrels)

Windows is already trying to trick me into rebooting again. It's only been 2 days since it last force-rebooted, only a week after the previous forced reboot.
Seems they are now shipping an update every week, and forcing a reboot 3 days after the update.
This is a disaster.

my families still do big christmas parties, but they're lowkey very sad because there are only four children at each of them, and three of those children are mine
holidays generally are largely productions by adults for the children and no one's having kids, i guess

@callanable @ouranometrian2 Our big Christmas gatherings stopped as my grandparents' gen got too old to run them and nobody else stepped up to. I always hated having to go to them, and so didn't mourn at the time, but in retrospect I feel something valuable was lost. I suspect many things are like this

I give my kids *unlimited* screen time on a modern laptop - but in text-mode only, no graphics. If they can figure out how to escape text mode, they will have graduated. Now that they're home from school, what texty thing should I introduce them to?
