There are deeply troubling reports that the federal government, under President Hassan Sheikh, is loading weapons onto planes for use against Southwest State (see the picture below for proof). These are not just weapons; they belong to the Somali people. They were meant to defend the country and protect its citizens, not to be turned inward. Seeing them prepared for use in an internal confrontation is painful and unsettling. It raises serious questions about the direction the country is taking. At a time when Somalia needs calm, dialogue, and unity, this kind of move risks pushing the nation toward unnecessary conflict. No political objective should come at the cost of Somali lives. A sobering reminder that corruption is ultimately indefensible and exposure is inevitable.

For way too long, we’ve watched presidential candidates ask for power without having a real concept of how to run it. When a country is bogged down by stagnation and deep-rooted corruption, vague promises aren't enough. The next leadership needs a concrete, written blueprint for political, social, and economic growth and the discipline to stick to it. But a plan is useless without the right team. Leaders lose all moral authority the moment they fill their administration with unqualified cronies. You simply cannot claim to love your country while handing the steering wheel to people who don't know how to drive. If you hire inexperienced people to manage the nation's day-to-day survival, it is clear that you are either unqualified chief executive unable to understand the needs of the country and how to overcome them or you have no interest in making a difference. The future leaders must end bad governance for good governance.

A farsighted leader can’t be compared to someone without real political vision. President Laftagareen’s leadership has been tested over time marked by patience, foresight, and firm decisions that prioritize the South West State. Empty talk can never replace functioning government

I had the pleasure of meeting the EU Ambassador to Somalia @francescaDM_EU during her first visit to Baydhabo today. We had some engaging and fruitful conversations. The Southwest State of Somalia is incredibly grateful for the support it receives from the EU. The EU has been a great partner for Somalia, aiding our nation-building efforts and providing much-needed financial assistance.

Time doesn’t change people, it reveals who they truly are.

Overall establishing an effective federal system is a complex task that requires building consensus and addressing power-sharing issues in line with the agreed-upon constitution. In this regard all leaders must be on board to mitigate political disagreements. Secondly two most significant challenges need to be dealt with: 1. Security: Relying on foreign forces is unsustainable in the long run. Donor fatigue is already setting in and will likely worsen over time. Somalia needs to find a way to secure itself. 2. Financial Independence: The country can't continue to be dependent on international donors. Dependency is like been hooked on a drug; it lead always searching for the next dose. Fortunately Somalia is rich in resources, and harnessing these peacefully could support the country's development and citizens. It is essential to keep in mind that regaining sovereignty, respect and national pride require a unified country with security, self-reliance, and political stability. Without these elements, sovereignty and other relevant national matters are merely nominal.

It was a pleasure to welcome H.E. EL-Hadji Ibrahima Diene “Boly”, the new Chair of the SRCC, to my office this morning as the acting president of Southwest State. We had a fruitful discussion about the important work the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) is doing in SWS, particularly in peacekeeping. H.E. Al-Haji Ibrahim emphasized that AUSSOM’s mission is well-defined and that they're collaborating closely with the federal government. I took the opportunity to extend our genuine appreciation to the AUSSOM troops serving in Southwest State for their participation and dedication to keeping our communities safe and secure. Their hard work doesn't go unnoticed, and we're truly grateful.
