@longevitysub

I’m a researcher writing about longevity, aging biology, and practical healthspan habits. Trying to separate what’s real from what’s hype.

You/we will spend far more time in the post abundance world than we did in the pre abundance world (pre 2030s). You will be living so long in the post abundance era that you may eventually forget what came before. It will feel as though you have lived in abundance forever.

How nicotine pouches affect your oral health: "It's like if you're sucking on a hard candy, but we're also seeing changes to the cellular structure up in that area." "This gentleman started using these pouches and after 15 months of use the x-rays are outrageous, he just has rampant decay along the side where he had the pouch." "If you're going to choose to use these, know the risks and make sure you're getting checked regularly at your dentist." @doctorstaci on @hubermanlab

we are the first generation to grow up without constantly being poisoned with led or asbestos, while having modern technology to fix disease we have finally created a world where we can build on human longevity, exciting stuff

@SamaHoole But what if it’s just that we learned the link between LDL and atherosclerosis?

1986: an LDL of 130 was a healthy number. 2001: 130 was a worry, 100 was the healthy number. 2004: 100 was borderline, 70 was the healthy number. 2019: 70 would do, but 55 was the healthy number. Later that same year: 55 was too high, 40 was the healthy number. Every time the safe line moves, yesterday's healthy man is today's patient, and nothing about him changed but the paperwork. Now draw the line forward. By 2040 the target's in the twenties. By 2060 it's single figures. By 2075 the ideal LDL is a level no living brain can actually run on. At which point they'll hand you the statin at the christening and file it under prevention.

@arhamgrowthcap @arny_dm Yes progression. According to the doctors who measured plaque volume during the study compared to a control group. The MOA of a statin is LDL reduction. Ofc it could have pleiotropic effects but you could say that about any drug

@longevitysub @arny_dm You mean progression. According to who? (diseased) people *may* benefit from statins. The benefit, if any, would be from (supposed) pleiotropic affects

open your fridge right now. if you see colorful plastic bottles and almond milk, you are running on factory chemicals. a real human fridge should look like a butcher shop. here is mine. just jars of meat and pure animal fuel. drop a picture of your fridge below. I’ll rate it and tell you exactly why you have zero energy. 👇

@drmikehart But couldn’t we develop another social tool? If it’s just a crutch, what’s the point in the risk?

My take on alcohol: 10–20% of people ruin their lives with it. Another 10–20% meaningfully damage their health, sleep, mood, or relationships. But for most people, even though it’s not healthy, it may still be a net positive socially or psychologically when used moderately.

I don't believe America has a healthcare crisis. I believe it has a food environment crisis. When most supermarket shelves are filled with ultra-processed products, chronic disease becomes predictable. Your metabolism reflects the environment you eat in every day. The healthiest healthcare system starts with a healthier food supply.

@longevitysub @arny_dm No causal link between saturated fats and atherosclerosis. Similarly no causal link between lipids and atherosclerosis.

@arhamgrowthcap @arny_dm So you’re saying blood lipids aren’t a good marker for atherosclerosis risk? Or no link between saturated fats and blood lipids? I’m trying to understand your argument

@longevitysub @arny_dm No scientific literature has established cause and effect between the two. They scrutinize blood lipids (via saturated fat’s influence); they are wrong. “Causal” would mean atherosclerosis in the veins; veins never develop plaque. Happy to annihilate any literature you know of

zero fiber right now. when I moved to the US, my body completely stopped tolerating it. I was constantly bloated. I dropped it and went full carnivore. the bloating vanished and my stomach stayed flat. I've left the US since then, but I have zero desire to go back to fiber. my joints and digestion have never been this good.

The haters and losers on this app (of which there are many) will fight you about this but it is 100% TRUE: McDonald's QP burger patties in the US are made from 100% USDA-inspected beef with no fillers, additives, or preservatives and they are grilled on a flat-top griddle with no added oil, butter, or fat GO ARGUE WITH A WALL!

Why are carbs so demonized? I do not understand the general trend right now, apparently carbs are bad for you? When did oats, sweet potatoes, berries become a number one cause of obesity? How in the world did some people come to this conclusion?

I still drink coffee every morning. I just don't drink it the moment I wake up. Here is the science behind it... - Cortisol peaks naturally in the first 30 to 90 minutes after waking. - Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors, the same receptors that build fatigue. - When you drink coffee during your cortisol peak you are stacking stimulation on top of stimulation. - Your brain builds tolerance to caffeine faster, you need more over time, and when the cortisol drops the crash is harder. Wait 60-90 minutes. Let your natural cortisol do its job first. Then use caffeine to extend it.
