The Senate passed a Schumer bill in the morning that is a complete and utter disaster. The Schumer bill would have: Defunded the police Shut down CBP Shut down ICE My @HouseGOP colleagues and I are staying here all night to stop this atrocity. We will send back the Senate a bill that FULLY reopens the government. Enough is enough.

A member of an offshoot of the Jewish Defense League — designated by the FBI as a "known violent extremist organization" — was allegedly building explosive devices to target the home of Nerdeen Kiswani in a chilling act of political violence. The defendant reportedly planned to flee to Israel following the attack. This comes amid an alarming rise in threats and violence across the country targeting Palestinian human rights advocates. I am thankful that the NYPD and FBI thwarted this plot, which could have endangered Nerdeen’s life and those of other New Yorkers. Let me be clear: We will not tolerate violent extremism in our city. No one should face violence for their political beliefs or their advocacy. I am relieved that Nerdeen is safe. Our city must meet hate with solidarity, and meet fear with an unshakable commitment to justice and to one another.

House Republicans are NOT going to be part of any effort to reopen our borders or stop immigration enforcement. Chuck Schumer’s gambit last night is a joke. We must fully fund Homeland Security and support our brave law enforcement heroes who keep Americans safe.

Looks like Leader John Thune is on his way out of town with his private escort, as the SAVE America Act gets left behind. This is very disappointing. I am willing to stay in Washington as long as it takes to get the job done.

Here’s where we stand. The Good: President Trump is paying TSA agents, and the current bill the Senate just sent over to the House re-opens DHS. ICE and Border Patrol will continue arrests and deportations, being primarily funded through the OBBB. Democrats did not succeed in sabotaging border and immigration enforcement in any substantive way. The Bad: the Senate goes on a two week recess without passing the SAVE America Act, stand-alone voter ID, or funding all of DHS through the normal process. Democrats threw a wrench into our efforts to deliver on issues which enjoy broad support among the American people. The Ugly: Congress, especially the Senate, cannot skate by relying on President Trump to solve all our problems. Republicans have to justify their majorities by fighting for permanent policy victories, not can-kicking with unrealistic reconciliation promises. If we do not stand and fight today, we will not inspire Americans in November.

The Senate bill is a non-starter. We’ll send something back to stand with @CBP & @ICEgov - perhaps other important provisions. But we’re not accepting the garbage from the Senate.

@RepKeithSelf GOP never should have held travelers hostage. They have all the IDs anyone needs. They have nothing to do with voter rolls. Keep that separate.

In the dead of night, with only five senators present on the floor and no one there to object, the Senate rushed through a DHS funding bill that deliberately left ICE and CBP unfunded. Now, they are leaving town. No SAVE America Act. ICE and CBP unfunded. Senate Republicans just gave the Democrats everything they wanted and more.

Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal. Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

ICE put a young American in a chokehold and threatened to blow a mother's brains out. We cannot allow any more funding for this rogue agency.

Worms in food. Medical crises. Measles outbreaks. Malnutrition. Several deaths, including one ruled a homicide, in the last few months alone.  The reports out of the nation’s largest detention facility are horrifying.  Thousands of Minnesotans have been sent to Camp East Montana, so I went to conduct oversight and visit my constituents being held there.  ICE didn’t allow me to see or speak to any of them.
