The Victims and Courts Bill has received has received Royal Assent! 🚨New law means ‘the Victims and Courts Act will provide an out of time route for victims and bereaved families to ask the Attorney General to consider referring a sentence up to 6 months from sentencing.’ The journey continues as we remain vigilant to ensure these law changes are carried out by a sole agency and true time parity ensures victims and bereaved families have the exact rights as offenders. My darling Josh this historic moment is in memory of your short life and the many victims and bereaved families who have been denied true justice. All my love Mum 💙😇#joshslaw #justiceforjosh #undulylenientsentencescheme

Extremely grateful to the Rt Hon. Baroness Levitt KC for her kind mention of my campaign during yesterday’s debate on the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) Scheme in the House of Lords. Her support is a significant milestone for our cause. “I want to pay tribute to Tracey Hanson, who, after her son Josh was murdered in an unprovoked knife attack in 2015, set up The Josh Hanson Trust, which focuses on supporting victims of violent crime and delivers educational programmes aimed at preventing youth violence and knife crime. She has campaigned tirelessly for reform of the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme to ensure that victims and bereaved families are made aware of the scheme and have a longer period in which to ask for a review. She has worked for over a decade with academics and campaigners to create this change in the law to ensure that no other bereaved family suffers an injustice like that suffered by her family when they were not notified in time about the existence of the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Tracey Hanson, but I would like to do so. She is clearly a remarkable woman, able to use her energy to campaign for changes to the criminal justice system in memory of her son Josh, so that other families in her position can benefit from her work”.

Whatever you do, vote! I know politics isn’t always interesting, and many people are completely scunnered with it, but if you don’t vote, someone else will and that’s how we end up with poor governments. Get registered! gov.uk/register-to-vo…
