DQ’ed for this⁉️ Mallard Creek (NC) crossed the line 1st in the boys 4x400m relay, which would have clinched the NCHSAA 8A team state title. Instead, they were disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct & finished 2nd in the team standings for this ⬇️

@vrexec I feel there’s an 80% chance this works, maybe higher. I did something like this for 9 months, the catch was that I was moving in and out of the Schengen zone the whole time.

Met someone recently Father of 2, works in tech sales, wife is a consultant Says “we’re actually going to move to Europe next year” I asked if they have EU passports He says no I asked which of their companies are going to transfer/sponsor them He says they’re not going to tell their employers I asked how long they planned to be in Europe then He said indefinitely… just put the kids in local schools and enjoy their mornings given the time difference.. live a “simpler life” with less stress I then explained.. almost waiting for him to reveal the joke.. that they can’t just “move to Europe” and drop their kids in school and get cheap healthcare. They need to be citizens or have visas… formally update their residency… be legitimately employed locally… not to mention legit docs for things like landlord approvals… the list went on. He wasn’t joking, apparently. This grown adult thought they could just “move to Europe” illegally… and he didn’t even think about the legality of it at all Apparently he’s a “doer” type guy who just makes things happen Good luck to him

Why is it so hard? They were banned in the US until 2007... George Bush tried one when he visited India in 2006 and said "This is a hell of a fruit!" and negotiated to lift the ban... but the mangoes have to be irradiated, because Indian mangoes turn to mush if you use hot water (like they do for Mexican mangoes) The season is only 2.5 months long, and it's a 7-day sprint: harvest, irradiate at one of the few certified facilities, get USDA inspection, send it on a passenger jet, customs, customer. They're picked ripe-ish, bruise easily, and don't travel well. Sea freight is too slow for quality. If there is any paperwork error, the USDA destroys the whole shipment. they are ~$50-65 a box this year, up from $40-45 last year... freight costs from the war have impact here. Mexican mangoes are like $12 a box but don't taste anything like the ones from India

The Plan? Start a VC fund for "everyone" but only invest in companies they've already missed at insane valuations deep into series G rounds. We'll charge them 3% for something they can't even sell. Think about it. Hedge fund fees for VC illiquidity with mutual fund marketing.

Introducing USVC - a single basket of high-growth venture capital, for everyone. No accreditation required, SEC-registered, and a very low $500 minimum. Includes OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Sierra, Crusoe, Legora, and Vercel. As USVC adds more companies, investors will own a piece of that too. Liquidity typically comes when companies exit, but we’re aiming to let investors redeem up to 5% of the fund every quarter. This isn’t guaranteed, but if we can make it work, you won’t be locked up like in a traditional venture fund. It runs on AngelList, which already supports $125 billion of investor capital. And I’ve joined USVC as the Chairman of its Investment Committee. — Go back to the 1500s, you set sail for the new world to find tons of gold - that was adventure capital. Early-stage technology is the modern version. It says we are going to create something new, and it’s risky. It’s daring. But ordinary people can’t invest until it’s old, until it’s no longer interesting, until everybody has access to it. By the time a stock IPOs, most of the alpha is gone. The adventure is gone. Public market investors are literally last in line. This problem has become farcical in the last decade. Startups are reaching trillion dollar valuations in the private markets while ordinary investors have their noses up to the glass, wondering when they’ll be let in. Investing in private markets isn’t easy. You need feet on the ground. You need judgment built over years. Most people don’t have the patience to wait ten or twenty years for an investment to come to fruition. But there is no more productive, harder-working way to deploy a dollar than in true venture capital. USVC enables you to invest in venture capital in a broad, accessible, professionally-managed way, through a single basket of innovation, focused on high-growth startups, at all stages. It is how you bet on the future of tech: the smartest young people in the world, working insane hours, leveraged to the max, with code, hardware, capital, media, and community. Your dollar doesn’t work harder anywhere. There is an old line - in the future, either you are telling a computer what to do, or a computer is telling you what to do. You don’t want to be on the wrong side of that transaction. USVC lets you buy the future, but you buy it now. Then you wait, and if you are right, you get paid. Get access here: usvc.com

If you live in a host city there seems to be a very good chance you can get tickets for less than $100 if you wait a few days before the game. The ticket sale numbers do not look good.

@samanfarid @JackKuhr Do you think we just keep seeing new entrants like this taking less and less for the basic service? And drivers continually switching to the neeer one that allows them to earn more?

So ridiculous, yall must know. For the last month I’ve been using Empower ride hailing app in NYC. (They charge drivers a monthly fee instead of taking 20%, I believe). Cars always available. And always much, much cheaper than Uber. Tonight was particularly insane. LaGuardia airport to home: - Uber: $125 (criminal) - Empower: $30 IDK guys it feels like $5 Via days. Don’t know which good soldier built this app, or why. But it feels like they’ve punched a hole in the absurd NYC ride hailing pricing schemes that we all had come to just accept.

@zoink Moving the abstraction of software creation up a level benefits figma greatly. The reality is anthropic has no choice but to try and compete with Figma as models commoditizes. The funnest reality is the one where Figma comes out and competes with Claude Code.
