Humanities and pure sciences Higher education needs a major revamp, with renewed thrust on the humanities and pure sciences. Today, in Tamil Nadu, there is hardly any university or college that matches central universities such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia and English and Foreign Languages University. Humanities and pure sciences alone can produce good teachers, who in turn produce good students and lay a strong foundation for learning. Without strong humanities and pure science departments, universities risk becoming mere training centres rather than institutions of learning.
