I can’t stress enough how much this is exactly how court works. Every single person involved in this case knows this woman as Egg Juror, and if she shows up in five years for some unrelated court business the hallways will whisper, “That’s EGG JUROR.”

Texas has long been known as the death penalty capital of the United States. And the death penalty capital of Texas, according to a report released this week, is Tarrant County. @dallasnews

The #txlege has tried for years to address the dysfunction and deterioration at the Office of the Attorney General. The Texas House Judiciary Committee — which has legislative oversight over the OAG — has invited General Paxton and/or Senior Staff to appear at legislative hearings dozens of times to report on the state of the agency — to no avail. The reports I get from those inside the agency reflect a totally absent and distracted leader, a troubling lack of focus and direction, rapidly cratering morale and Texans on a regular basis having their needs ignored and cases mishandled — most troubling being multiple victims of sexual abuse and assault and human trafficking. There have been some wins on important lawsuits, sure. And that’s well and good. But Attorney General Paxton is failing the State of Texas. Even though only some are willing to say it — everyone knows it to be true.

Three voter files over six months. Same issues in all of them. It's time for #txlege to subpoena @GoCivix's engineers. Not a figurehead, the developers. They're long overdue to explain why a $17 million system can't validate a date. Sit 'em down. Talk the tech. Under oath.

Being a celebrity is hard work

James Broadnax was just executed by the people of Texas even though another man confessed to the killings and DNA evidence makes it clear he was not the shooter. The crime was heinous. This execution was too. Blind vengeance is not justice. James, and Texans, deserve better.

Texas is going to execute James Broadnax next week for a murder someone else confessed to. James committed a robbery and should be punished for that, not executed for a shooting he did not commit. The State must intervene before a man is wrongly executed in our names.

he was 14 when he was falsely arrested and prosecuted. 14. years. old. his trial lasted a single day. he spent 17 innocent years behind bars and the rest on state supervision. impossible to heal. and no one will be held accountable.

@hell_line0 Ectopic pregnancy isn't treated by a pharmacist. A doctor is needed to intervene because a prescription won't prevent the tube from rupturing. Have I recently told you how idiotic your posts are and how they can actually harm people through false intormation?

She had an ectopic pregnancy. Non-viable. Dangerous. The pharmacist refused the medication. Cited "conscience clause." She went to the ER. Her tube ruptured. She lost her fertility. He kept his license. They call it religious freedom. I call it medical malpractice sanctioned by the state. But go ahead, keep saying no one d!es from these aws.

One problem with having few SCOTUS justices with criminal defense experience is that they might have trouble imagining why criminal defense lawyers sometimes bite their tongues.

It gets worse. This weekend after seeing the video, a veteran criminal defense lawyer (with no cases in this guy’s civil court) wrote this judge an email telling the judge he needed to apologize. The judge responded by accusing the lawyer of making an ex parte communication and ordered him to appear next week under threat of contempt. I’m a member of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association “Strike Force,” a group of several lawyers tasked with defending lawyers against judicial overreach at a moment’s notice. We’ll be there to make sure this judge does not try to jail a veteran lawyer just for exercising his First Amendment rights in criticizing an elected judge’s behavior.
