@KemiBadenoch The UK so desperately needs you in power NOW. We cannot afford any more terror attacks, or the intifada hate marches. Labour is paralysed in fear of recognising islamophobia for what it is - that it is real and has been more than earned for decades!

I am tired of standing before good Jewish people to offer condolences and expressions of solidarity. Words are not enough. We must do what is necessary to keep us all safe. We know the evil we face. We see it. We know how it operates, how it abuses our democracy, and subverts our institutions. Radical Islamism is a threat to Western civilisation. It is incompatible with British values of freedom, equality, and the rule of law. Action means breaking up extremist networks that radicalise our youth, safeguarding Jewish communities, stopping protests from becoming platforms for violence, and revoking visas from foreign students who celebrate antisemitic terror. As Jewish families across Britain gather to celebrate Chanukah, we do so this year with heavy hearts, after the horrific scenes in Sydney, where people were murdered simply for being Jewish. These were targeted attacks, driven by the same ancient hatred that has resurfaced with frightening confidence across the world, including here in the UK. The attack at Heaton Park in Manchester was an act of terror that brought fear to an anguished community already living with a disturbing rise in antisemitism. We need truth, courage and moral conviction more than ever. Chanukah is a story of resilience, courage, and the refusal to surrender. This time last year, we called for the return of British hostage Emily Damari. This year, we can finally say she is home, along with all the living hostages. That is something to celebrate and it is a reminder that even after the darkest nights, light can return. Chag Chanukah Sameach.

@elonmusk This is frightening. I lived through the apartheid years and really thought the country had evolved Doesn’t seem so after seeing this.

10/ This moment demands a reckoning. If we don’t change course now, we’ll be having the same conversations in 20 years—except in a world where it’s even more dangerous to be Jewish. It’s time to radically alter course. More of the same won’t make this better.

I’ve spent much of my career in the Jewish institutional world. I’ve seen billions spent on fighting antisemitism. And yet, young voters are 5x more likely to have an unfavorable view of Jews than their grandparents. We need to talk about why. 🧵
David Shor@davidshor

Explicit antisemitic attitudes are now much more common among young voters - 18 year old registered voters are now ~5x more likely to say that they have an unfavorable view of the Jewish people than 65 year olds.

This is Rahul. He is a member of a communist group who was arrested earlier today for calling for the genocide of Jewish people. Should he be deported from the UK?

@Nadav_Eyal Unbelievable. Tragic beyond words. I fear we are becoming desensitised to the words “massacre/ rape/ violence/ murder etc.” The silence of the world is deafening. Where is the outrage ??

We are starting to hear details from the hostages, and they describe what amounts to torture. I am not going to detail everything we hear, just what was published by the families themselves. Here are some harrowing stories: *A 9-year-old girl believed she was kidnapped for a year and still whispers due to threats from her Hamas kidnappers. *3-year-old twins were released without their dad, after Hamas attempted to free them alone while their mother remained captive. *A 12-year-old, kidnapped alone after his father was shot, was beaten by Gaza residents and forced at gunpoint by Hamas to watch videos of their murder spree and massacres. *Remember the red-haired babies kidnapped with their mother? The Bibas family wasn't released. Hamas claims they can't reach them, and reports suggest they were traded within the Gaza strip to another faction. *Two hostages were murdered in Gaza: Noa Marziano (killed in Shifa hospital by Hamas, with the complicity of medical staff), and Yehudit Vice, a cancer patient kidnapped and murdered by Hamas near Shifa hospital. *The Israeli Health Ministry reports that elderly women kidnapped by Hamas lost between 8-15 kg on average, amounting to starvation. There more details to come, some harrowing. These testimonies indicate war crimes and the torture of children and adults who, at times, lost their family to the mass murder committed by Hamas. Comparing the release of Palestinian prisoners, who enjoyed internationally lawful conditions including regular ICRC visits, to 3-year-old girls who witnessed their parents' murder and were held against their will, is either a case of severe misinformation or sheer malice. The stories are just beginning to emerge.

A few reflections on the march against antisemitism today, the biggest since the Battle of Cable Street. There was not a single masked face; not a single act of intimidation or vandalism; not a single call for death or genocide; not a single desecration of our monuments or statutes; and not a single bad-tempered interaction with the police. (I did however see a placard about chicken soup, one about Jewish mothers not being monsters, one asking people to become anti-Marmite rather than antisemite, and one declaring a desire for a Jewish husband, including a phone number.) It was all very good-humoured and moving. The police were there to protect those attending, not to defend society against them. Officers were all smiles and everything was smooth and easy. The @metpoliceuk was thanked at the end, as was the glorious @CST_UK. I especially valued seeing the proud Iranians there, flying their flags and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel and Jews against fanatical jihadism and the theocratic regime in Tehran. Old Tommy Robinson was carted off shortly after he arrived, and good riddance. As the march got going, the atmosphere was at times quite quiet. We ordinary folk are not activists. We are not used to this sort of thing, did not have ready-made chants and felt a little embarrassed by raising our voices. When we did, however, we called for the release of the hostages, the prosecution of those guilty of hate crimes and peace. @Roxanna04749331 and I overcame our Englishness to lead several rounds of “bring them home.” We were slightly over-caffeinated. We sang traditional Jewish songs asserting the right of the people of Israel simply to live and calling for peace. One poignant sign read “I’m allowed to be proud of being Jewish,” as if the bearer was almost trying to convince himself. In Parliament Square, the statue of Winston Churchill stooped above us like an ally. There were many chants and songs for peace, repeated frequently and with much feeling. In the @chiefrabbi’s wonderful and moving speech, which stood out magnificently from the rest, he made it utterly clear that every innocent Palestinian death — fetishised by Hamas — is a tragedy. He made it clear that this was a war that Israel did not ask for or want, and we raised a universal prayer for peace. We did feel the absence of political support. It was wonderful to see @TomTugendhat, @RobertJenrick, @peterkyle and others, but there should have been so many more politicians standing up for Jews, including party leaders and front benchers. It was also baffling to see that while the @JLC_UK came out to bat, the @BoardofDeputies failed dismally to wholeheartedly support the rally. This shouldn’t have been controversial. It was a matter of fundamental British and Jewish values. But let’s not focus on the negatives. I can say with all confidence that not one of the 105,000 people there wished anything but peace and prosperity to Palestinians and Muslims. There were no hate chants, no calls for violence and absolutely no racism. If there were any extremists there, I didn’t see them and they were utterly insignificant in number. On the streets today were people from all backgrounds, religions and walks of life. There were many bobble hats. (Many excellent @JewishChron people.) This was unmistakably the silent majority finally discovering its voice. There was much camaraderie and good humour. One lady gave my step-daughter a yellow ribbon to demand the release of the hostages, and tied it into her hair. Many people recognised me and expressed their love and support. It was a unification of Jews and non-Jews alike, marching in favour of tolerance, freedom, liberalism and justice. And standing against jihadism. Great Britain: 105,000 of you turned up in the cold and wet today and did us bloody proud. We can all hold our heads a little higher tonight. Thank you @antisemitism, led by the heroic @gideonfalter, for organising such a powerful and historic moment. עם ישראלַ חי

@RishiSunak Please do not let this happen. These protests are not peaceful they are calling for an intifada and death to all Jews. This is not what should be happening on the streets of London on armistice day. Or any day!!

Greta, may I beseech you for a heartfelt favor that could leave an indelible mark on history and for generations to come? Greta, this is even more important than global warming and glacial retreat. Could you please, with all your compassion, ask the Hamas terrorist organization to release the innocent babies they have kidnapped? Will you prove that you do care for humanity, or will you continue to turn a blind eye and deaf ear? I know that the lives of kidnapped babies by Hamas are more important to you than getting thousands of likes, or am I wrong? #HamasislSIS

Ben Binyamin Shimoni was at a party in Kibbutz Re’im when Hamas terrorists arrived and started slaughtering the participants. He managed to get to his car, picked up 4 passengers, and escaped. After managing to escape, he dropped them off in a safe place and decided to return to save more. He went back, put 8 more young men in his car, and smuggled them out as well. But he was not satisfied and chose to return for a 3rd time to save more innocent people. He managed to get 3 more young men into his car, but this time, the terrorists got to him, and he, along with those who got into his car, were murdered. Ben is a real Israeli hero!
