You might also say it's a departure of both. "Christ crucified is foolishness to the Greek, and a stumbling block to the jew." Foolishness because the cross is a shameful death. Stumbling because it's a curse. Christianity reorients the mind. For the Greek what is death becomes life, for the jew what is a curse becomes glory. Christ for the pagan becomes the archetypal hero inducted into his kingdom by a crown of thorns. A kingdom whose citizenship is achieved through death (baptism). For the jew the fulfillment of the law and the promised messiah, who Lords over zion bringing us peace. Peace won by a final sacrifice (communion) Christianity has forgotten that Jesus is a warrior-king [christus victor] and if a king, a terror to his enemies and a friend to his servants. Every failure of the modern church can be relegated to "Jesus is an unqualified friend". But he is only a friend to this who are his, and even then only as much as a father is a friend to a son, a king to a servant. Hierarchy and order remains. As do demands of lordship.

Excellent breakdown
Josiah Lippincott@jlippincott

Human beings learn through three modes: 1) pleasure and pain 2) honor and shame 3) reason Children have undeveloped reason. Due to a lack of experience and thinking power, they struggle to follow a premise through a chain of reasoning to a conclusion. Children are responsive to honor and shame but not perfectly so. They are often shameless. Children will, in the absence of instruction, engage in emotional outbursts in public, insist on their own will, lash out physically when they don't get their way, and completely disregard the feelings of others. They do this not because they are evil but because they are ignorant. They don't have a developed theory of mind for others and their passions and physical sensations govern their conduct to a very high degree. It is difficult for a child to understand even the passing of time, much less the importance of deferred consumption. For all these reasons, children need parents to guide them through their early youth. The parent's reason substitutes for the child's deficiency. The purpose of the parent's authority is to protect the body of the child from harm while cultivating the child's mind until he can reach the age of freedom. During this time, and especially in the early youth, children require firm boundaries and a clear hierarchy of authority. They need this for their physical safety and for the maintenance of an orderly and structured home. The use of physical pain is one of the clearest and most effective ways of establishing this authority. Pain is sharp and decisive. It does not require the child to understand things they find unintelligible. Nor does it depend on their undeveloped sense of shame or their capacity for memory (which is weak). It is not necessary that a child understand what a speeding vehicle will do to a human body to know that they get a sharp rap on the wrist every time they run towards a busy street. Pain is a powerful and important teacher. A judicious parent should use this tool. A few crucial boundaries: parents should never hit a child in anger. They should never berate or insult the child. Spanking is not an "outlet" for the parent's emotions. Each use of physical punishment should come with a careful explanation of why this punishment was necessary and a reminder that the child is loved, that the discipline comes from a place of care for the child. The purpose of all parenting, again, is to raise the child to independence and freedom, to the use of their own reason. The end goal of all discipline by the parent is to one day come to a place of friendship and equality with the adult child.

This type of nuance only coming from one side of the argument is a tell that the antispanking morons don't have a handle on reality. If your feeble mind can't tolerate basic distinctions like child/adult or nose flick/haymaker, you simply don't have vote in serious conversations.
JR (Jean Dieu) 🇺🇲⚜️🇺🇲@RealJohnDios

I'm not really anti-spanking but after five kids I can probably count the number of times I've actually had to do it in one hand. If you're doing things because you're mad you're losing, whether it's hitting or yelling or whatever.

@ThomLately Stefan molyneux has done hours on this. You shouldn’t hit tiny people who love you more than anything and rely on you for everything. He’ll talk to you if you like. If your parents hit you, it doesn’t mean they didn’t love you. If you have kids, please stop beating them.

When a two year old is doing something dangerous or whatever, they’re not doing it because they’re “bad” or manipulating adults, they’re naturally very curious and limitless in their little minds and that shouldn’t be connected to physical pain. Toddlers are the easiest creatures on earth to redirect. You literally just ask them about bluey or how big the slide is at their favorite park. Give them a pot to bang on for 10 minutes. Throw all the pillows on the floor and let them jump off the couch. Engage them->redirect them. This discourse is sad. I want Japanese twitter back ☹️

I'm now getting hundreds of comments that this definitely works and two year olds care a lot about what is dangerous or not

You can cry about projection all you want, but it's literally true that your moronic logic is the pedophiles' starting point for justifying his sadistic crimes. If you don't like the association, try not being such a retard. There's nothing predatory about directing your child in the way they should go. Something you will never have control over no matter how much you creeplily want to. This is the real predatory impulse.

@mereranarchy Insane projection. Pedophiles and kid hitters both prey on the child's inability to defend themselves and bank on the child not having the courage to tell others about the predatory behavior..

I've seen a lot of pushback against this, most of which boils down to an assertion that the quantitative difference between a calm slap on the butt and a full-on punch in the face automatically translates into a qualitative difference. Personally I don't accept this argument. Physical violence is obviously worse when it happens with higher frequency and intensity, but it doesn't stop being physical violence when it's comparatively infrequent or less intense. If you tried to correct the behavior of a coworker by physically striking them, you would at minimum be charged with assault regardless of the blow's location or intensity. You wouldn't be able to wiggle your way out of the charges by saying that your coworker wouldn't listen or that their workplace behavior put their own life at risk. If your children are the only people you physically strike, the message you send is that you respect them less than you respect everyone else -- even perfect strangers. Sam is right about the consequences of using physical violence against children. It's a dose dependent environmental toxin, and so more violence does more damage than less violence, but violence against them still causes lasting damage regardless of quantity. If you use violence against your children when they do things you don't like, their main takeaways will be: 1. People who say they love you will hurt you. 2. You can avoid being hurt by lying to people who say they love you. 3. People who say they love you will treat you worse than they treat everybody else. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think this won't have a profound impact on your child's future choice of friends or spouse. I've seen it said that it's necessary to use physical violence as a deterrent to keep children from repeatedly placing themselves into mortal danger but I have three kids under 10 years old and this has never been my experience. In fact, the more intrinsically dangerous something is -- running into the road, for example -- the less I even have to speak to my kids about it. They've all fallen down in the driveway before. They get it.
Sam Hyde 🇺🇸@wigger

Hitting your kids is in the same category as circumcision, iPads, strict adherence to the CDC vaccine schedule---it is for Ns, goyim, and walmart pajama people. It lowers IQ (Straus, 1995), increases aggression (Gershoff, 2016), is less effective than a timeout, and requires escalation to keep working. The replies to articles like this are filled up with the Dumbest People Who Ever Existed saying "it worked for me" and then genuinely malicious and hateful morons dropping reaction gifs of like daffy duck swinging a belt "EVERY STATE IN AMERICA ALLOWS YOU TO PHYSICALLY CORRECT YOUR CHILD. It's legal. It's fun. Bring it on." -- profile says: Cat Sanctuary Dad. Unyielding steel. Workouts, keto, cat chaos, anime rants. Godzilla, Gundam, Mazinger, Ultraman, classical art, manga. If you hit your kids, you will create permanent emotional distance with the only person/people you could ever be that close to, not to mention sending them down the road of being as much of a lost fuckup loser as you are who will hit their own kids, or wont, but only after spending a decade figuring out why they reflexively apologize all the time.

If your parents hit you as a kid, the most important thing you can do is forgive them and break the chain with your own kids. This is actually much easier than it seems since you can simply choose to do things. But it involves recognizing that the initial physical violation pales in comparison to the deeper psychic betrayal, which is the realization that your authority figures are weak, indulgent, out of control and therefore unfit to govern you. Not they betrayed you, but they betrayed themselves. In principle, this is a good realization to have and most basically intelligent people come to it at one point or another. The problem with having it forced on you at a young age is that it creates a permanent distance between you and your emotions. In other words, you can understand and even accept them, but you will never fully believe them. They will forever seem fake and gay. This makes it hard to be vulnerable or uninhibited, which are prerequisites of all love bonds. Immigrant parents, even the smart ones, don’t seem to realize that initiating their kids into reality while they’re still dependents is not wise but lazy and retarded.

I gotta say I would have never guessed that 90 percent of the right would be against any form of physical punishment for their children. The bible is pretty clear on this one. “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with a rod, they will not die. Punish them with a rod and save them from death."
