@theutahepidemic @RockyAnderson Actually a huge reason houseless people can’t secure employment because they’re unable to obtain an ID because they don’t have an address. You have to have an ID to get a job, a bank account, etc.

I suspect the root of the problem has something to do with this.
We lead the world in hard drug addiction. Most of our homeless are unemployable because they are shackled to their addictions.

The Salt Lake City Council has a meeting on Tuesday to vote on a potential ordinance that would ban camping and otherwise using public property for living accommodations.
This is important that we get it passed, so that parks can return to being parks.
This is a picture of the basketball court in Pioneer Park last summer. It was unusable as a baseball court. This summer, the city has ripped it up and is currently building a new one on the other side of the park. We are spending $19 million on new equipment in the park, including a children’s playground, a new dog run and a new pickleball court.
The question before the council is simple: will the residents of Salt Lake City get to use this equipment as intended?
If the ordinance fails, we will once again have consigned the parks to our largely drug addicted homeless population, who need rehab and job training and mental health services, none of which is offered on pickleball courts.
I encourage you to join the meeting either in person or virtually on Tuesday at 7pm.

Letting people camp along the river, our parks, or out on the streets is bad for everyone. Lets get people inside and get them the help they need. Tolerating these kinds of free for all living arrangements isn't compassionate it's negligent. kutv.com/news/local/bru…
