Comparing this to going to the dentist girl fuck u

@seltzerprincess My most boomer take is that a Pap smear is momentarily uncomfortable and the drama around them being excruciating is greatly exaggerated! It’s not FUN but like neither is going to the dentist.

So I wasn't doing particularly well with my grief. Went to the GP a few weeks ago and he put me on benzo's (which I have only taken one of) Hubby wasn't doing particularly well with his grief. Went to the GP and he was offered sessions with other bereaved people. He goes once a week for 2 hours and there are professionals there as well. Why? Why does he get one option and I got given potentially addictive drugs? And why has it left me feeling so bloody resentful?

on the pap smear thing: yes it’s rooted in misogyny that cervical cancer screening hasn’t evolved past a pap while prostate cancer screening is becoming less and less invasive but also you do not want to fuck with cervical cancer.

@reyphorian aren't self swabs only for hpv? i had to do one and that's what i've been told + what my results were about, so while it's definitely good that they exist, they can't properly replace pap smears as far as i know :(

i'd like to bring more awareness to the bouquet and lilium speculum models, both of which were designed for the anatomy of the vagina. lilium is made of semi-flexible medical grade TPV rubber. you're also absolutely entitled to doing a self swab if that's more comfortable

Hi, OBGYN here that does speculum exams daily. They’re not meant to torture but they can be uncomfortable or even painful for some. I use plastic speculums & lots of lubrication. I start with the smallest & go up if needed. These are important exams to have for women’s health!

@torchboree I think anaesthetic is 100% more required for a body part being ripped out than a tool insertion and swab. Even just the needle insertion for dental anaesthetic is more painful than a speculum examination. Youre an idiot.

the dentist? you mean the dentist that uses general and localized anesthetic for possibly painful procedures? that one?

@thhouseofblack I’d respect him if he just said “I’m just going to do what I want and you can watch it or don’t.” All this trying to spin and justify is wild.

Look man, sometimes you're just going to have to admit that you threw historical accuracy out of the window. Even setting the colour aside, the armour looks nothing like Ancient Greek armour, let alone Bronze Age Mycenaean Greek armour.
Variety@Variety

Christopher Nolan is defending the historical accuracy of the armor in #TheOdyssey: “There are Mycenaean daggers that are blackened bronze. The theory is they probably could have blackened bronze in those days. You take bronze, you add more gold and silver to it and then use sulfur… With Agamemnon, Ellen [Mirojnick], our costume designer, is trying to communicate how elevated he is relative to everyone else. You do that through materials that would be very expensive.” (via Time) wp.me/pc8uak-1lHg5Q

Every British person I've met, regardless of if they're Anglo-Saxon or Celtic or whatever, I could tell was British. Dudes could be ethnically Indian or Nigerian but something about their mouth or jaw or whatever just made me think British
☀️AliquisNovus☀️@PalmyrPar

I met a blonde white guy raised from birth in Japan (with no Japanese ancestry), and I don’t know how to explain it, but he looked literally, physically more Asian than other white guys.

@softlxnar i appreciate the honesty but “this torture device is less evil than the torture device they shove up there if you really get cancer” is not hopeful or motivating whatsoever like ok then let me skip the cancer and buy a gun atp.

Seems like pap smear discourse is happening again. As a medical physicist I have had to observe cervical brachytherapy during my research on cervical cancer. This treatment involves a metal rod being placed through the cervix and into the uterus, often with additional needles inserted into the cervical tissue acting as additional radiation channels. For some tumours, this device is left inside the patient for 1-2 days to deliver a low dose of radiation slowly. This is horrifying to watch, and more horrifying to experience. Nothing is worse than cancer. Please get your smear test.

@offbeatorbit They weren't exactly wrong, they asked a question they did not know the answer to and learned the answer was yeah they do shove stuff up there and laser you but it is done under anesthesia

@offbeatorbit TBH the pap discourse is dumb but this one is somewhat valid. I’m a radiation therapist and the men’s treatment is NOT like the women’s. Prostate brachy is done entirely under anesthesia, but women are only under for the insertion. It’s horrific and there should be a better way.
