I’m one of 270,000 Long Islanders who commute to NYC on the LIRR. Now that the railroad is on strike, my neighbors and I will have to drive 120 miles each day—paying Kathy Hochul’s congestion pricing toll on top of high gas prices. Bruce Blakeman is right to call for the toll’s suspension while the parties negotiate. And Leader Ra is wise to make it automatic going forward.

LIRR workers are already the highest-paid rail employees in America with median base pay around $131k and total compensation often hitting $200k–$300k+ including elite pensions and benefits yet they’re shutting down North America’s busiest commuter rail over a rounding error? Both sides agreed to solid raises. Unions demand a permanent 5% hike while MTA offered the exact same money as 4.5% effective (3% + lump sum). Rejecting this forces potential 8% fare hikes or tax increases on all riders and other MTA workers, while the strike itself costs millions daily enough to erase their “extra” ask in days. This isn’t solidarity or fairness; it’s pure entitlement, holding Long Island and NYC commuters hostage for premium raises on top of already gold-plated pay. Earlier today, @GovKathyHochul visited our Operations Control Center for an update on subway service during the @LIRR suspension. New York City Transit will provide fast and reliable service for riders transferring to subway lines in Queens.

The LIRR is the lifeblood of Long Island. Hundreds of thousands of riders depend on it every day. This strike hurts both the riders who rely on the LIRR and the workers who operate it. We have a plan in place to help essential workers get to the city and minimize disruptions as much as possible.

Before getting into the details, as someone who has spent a lot of time in Gastonia, NC, this is the most "Gastonia" gas station conversation I've ever heard (audio up) 😎 -very good body positioning by the cop to conceal his 4 o'clock draw and a solid draw and first shot on target time 🤌🏽 -the cop took at least two shots on the threat while the threat was at a 90 degree angle; good example of why the 12-18'' penetration standard is the standard.
