@oneplunk That's an absolute lie that anyone with access to Google can verify in 20 seconds. The absolute majority of people kicked out were Shia Muslims. No Christians were purposefully displaced.

@oneplunk @esaagar Nowhere near 65 and I already pay enough. This isn’t a new handout it’s ending govt rent forever on homes seniors own outright after decades of taxes (plus FICA). I want my kids and grandkids to inherit real ownership, not perpetual shakedowns on fixed income.

One of the most destructive myths in politics: Seniors have the opposite of a fixed income. They get inflation adjusted tax free income, subsidized healthcare, and access to retirement savings that if used properly should have compounded over decades
Let’s Put It To a Vote@Xvotesays

@esaagar By the time I’m 65 I’ll have paid property tax for 40 years. Absolutely f’n right to stop the madness. Old people have n a fixed income have already paid enough!

Seniors should not pay property taxes — especially if they own their homes outright. On a side note, Gen X is next in line for retirement, and the hard truth is that many have no idea how they’re going to make it work. They have lived through extremely volatile financial markets, raised children through an overpriced education system, endured inflation, and many have been financially devastated by crushing divorces. The fact is, Gen X has been hammered by the current government and economic system. That means we need to start thinking ahead — quickly. And we cannot ignore the younger generations either. To those who believe the retirement age should be increased, explain how that works when AI is coming for millions of jobs. And let’s not forget the Americans who used their bodies for a paycheck — the tradesmen, laborers, nurses, factory workers, truck drivers, first responders, and everyone else who sacrificed physically to keep this country running. I say this as the son of a blue-collar working man who never missed a day of work because he had a family to provide for. That kind of man built this country. I am not against business innovation. As a self-employed individual, I am business friendly. But at the end of the day, my heart is — and always will be — with the working men and women of this country. They are the backbone of society. We need to think ahead. And we need to do it fast.

@lepke2112 @esaagar Obviously we won't agree but just out of curiosity, how much money are you willing to pay a year for this policy? And if you are 65+ then how much do you want you kids and grand kids to pay for this?

@oneplunk @esaagar Voluntary downsizing is your choice. Forcing seniors out of paid-off family homes via exploding property taxes (govt rent forever) on fixed SS income isn’t wisdom it’s coercion. They paid decades of taxes already. Many want to age in place. Your plan ≠ policy.

@MikeNumerical @esaagar How about we set up a fund in each state. People can voluntarily pay into it and whatever is collected can be taken off of what 65+ pay. Everyone else will have to pay the difference anyway

@lepke2112 @esaagar I own a house. A very nice house. And when my kids go off to college my wife and i will sell it and get something smaller. It doesn't make sense to stay in the same house for 50 years, especially if you can't afford the taxes

Nonsense. Seniors paid property taxes every single year for decades not just “when young.” They own the home outright after paying off the mortgage. Now on fixed SS (prepaid via FICA), exploding taxes = govt rent forever + eviction notice. Housing crisis is zoning, regs & money printing not boomers aging in place. Stop the envy. You want a house.

@lepke2112 @esaagar When these seniors were young seniors paid property taxes. I don't feel bad for people who want to live forever in a house they can't afford when others want to buy homes but can't afford them

More destructive myths from you. That “inflation-adjusted tax-free income” is Social Security money seniors already paid into via decades of FICA taxes. Medicare? Prepaid too. Many live on SS alone while property taxes explode faster than COLAs. Forcing them to sell their paid-off home or get evicted isn’t “tough love” it’s government rent forever. Seniors built this country. Stop the envy.

@oneplunk The post Covid inflation + Ukraine inflation was super bad, up to 9%. But it had gone down to 3% in June of 2024. It’s 4% and rising now and this time it’s caused entirely by the government

Real unemployment (U6) is up almost 2 points from 2023, bottom 50% consumer spending adjusted for inflation has flatlined since 2023, inflation is near 4% and growing WHILE fed rates are above 3.5%. Things have been getting worse and will most likely continue to get worse

@JosephGelman @TheModerateCase Then that would mean every jew is responsible for the nazi state of israel. This is what israel has always done, they hide behind people in the wests desire to not be bigots. It has stopped working since we now have daily video evidence of atrocities committed by israel

A pro-Palestine protest in Montreal is now drawing outrage after footage appeared to show an effigy of a visibly Jewish person wearing a kippah hanging from a rope. There is a massive difference between opposing Israel’s government and using imagery that appears to depict Jews being hanged. This is exactly why so many Jewish people feel like “anti-Zionism” is being used as a shield for things that would be instantly condemned if directed at anyone else.

I’ve been saying for years now that the rhetoric surrounding some Palestinian and anti-Israel protests was becoming dangerously toxic, fueled and inflamed by certain podcasters and online voices. Much of it is no longer focused on the Israeli government, but on Israelis as a people despite Israel being a diverse population with many different views and backgrounds. Criticism of governments or policies is one thing. But when the language turns into hatred toward Jews or denial of Israelis’ right to exist safely and peacefully, it crosses a line that should never be normalized. At that point, it is no longer a protest for Palestinian rights. It becomes a protest against the rights of Israelis themselves.

Amon Göth in Schindler’s List (1993) may be one of the most terrifying villains in film history. What makes him so frightening is not intelligence, power, or theatrical evil — but cruelty without reason. In the haunting “Balcony Hunt” scene, Göth casually shoots prisoners from his balcony as if human life means nothing. One moment calm, the next violently unpredictable, he turns fear into something constant. Amon Göth is terrifying because he doesn’t feel like a movie villain. He feels real.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend

Saudi Arabia expecting Israel to give up sovereignty over half the country in exchange for “normalization” can go fly a kite. If adding Saudi Arabia and Qatar to the Abraham Accords requires Israel to cut itself into pieces and make concessions that endanger its own existence, then maybe Israel should stop chasing these deals altogether. Israel survived 77 years without Riyadh’s approval. It will survive without it for another 77. Woof. The audacity of demanding concessions from Israel as if Israel owes them something in the first place is mind-blowing.
