@rogie So long as booting up Claude Code every morning reminds me how it kicks the Llamas ass every morning I'm good with that...

Now that extended collections is live in Figma, I put together a FigJam file with structure recommendations ⚙️ There are a lot of things to think about now when it comes to structuring multi-brand systems, so hopefully this is a helpful starter figma.com/community/file…

@mxstbr @Shopify @ryolu_ I think that's true if the handoff is product UI, and the LLM is well trained on the design system components, the system prompt is well set up and the designer is (probably) reasonably code proficient - but that feels like a relatively rare find in most orgs still?

Design → dev handoffs are a thing of the past. At @Shopify, our designers vibe code prototypes of their ideas in playground/"baby" versions of the product. (h/t @ryolu_) They then work with devs to implement the prototypes for real. There's no "handoff" along the way. It's one continuous stream of work and collaboration. One team.
Colm Tuite@colmtuite

This has the potential to be the first real innovation in design —> dev handoff since...well, ever.

@joepuddle @figma Ah - got it. That route does force you to use the single component, many variants way of structuring icons rather than using instance swap though I guess. It only works for monochrome icons - but we use this x.com/rogie/status/1… trick to prevent colors resetting.
˗ˏˋ rogie ˎˊ˗@rogie

Here it is. A workaround for your buttons to preserve icon colors when you swap out icons. This has been another #TotallyRadFigmaTip from ya boi. Here's the @Figmadesign file: figma.com/community/file… #figmatips #figmatip

@parkersweb @figma If you create a text variable the same name as your icon you can then pull in an instance then in the prop panel assign it that text string. It's not ideal though as applied colours reset @pr4veen/how-i-link-my-icons-with-figma-variables-3a54eef2558f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@pr4veen/how-i…

Hey @figma when will you give us the ability to swap icons (assets) using variables? Not just the text string hack. That just doesn't scale.

@disco_lu You could argue that design ownership is still code based; Figma files after all are still code - but the primary interface is visual and we haven’t yet cracked seamless translation between that code and the code used in our own applications…

What if your brand was driven by a codebase, instead of it being driven by design 🤔 Tokens json and guidelines md as the starting point and pushed out into: ➡️ Brand guidelines ➡️ Design library ➡️ Coded tokens ➡️ Copywriting rules ➡️ ...everything

If you're coming to Config London, I'll be giving a talk about color, so that might be a good time to go get lunch or something.

@DanHollick Really enjoyed the talk yesterday! As someone who has spent waaay too long creating colour ramps (and has up until now been using huetone.ardov.me) I'm wondering if the colour tool you showcased yesterday is publicly available anywhere?

@GoogleWorkspace But pricing is also being increased - so you actually mean "we're forcing you to pay for this add-on now...". How do we move to a package that doesn't include the AI features please?

We believe AI can transform how every business works. That’s why, starting today, we're including Gemini as part of #GoogleWorkspace without the need to purchase an add-on—across Gmail, Docs & more—it's rolling out to Business & Enterprise plans soon → goo.gle/3PsIwf1

We haven’t had a new job title proposed in a while, so please allow me Software architect > product designer “Design” in the title will always force stakeholders to think of you as the person making stuff pretty, and not influencing the core business

@disco_lu @molly_hellmuth Possibly! 😁 Were you thinking Figma files or expanded thoughts? It was a project from the pre-variables era, so dark mode implementation is somewhat archaic....

@disco_lu @molly_hellmuth I've been down this rabbit hole once before... Once you're beyond inverting just foregrounds (e.g. text / icons) I found it much more helpful to think in terms of "localised dark mode".
