Show me another industry like tech / software engineering, where so many companies encourage employees to share *how* they operate (practices; often via blog posts & talks) and *what* they built (open sourcing). To share so much in public, in such an easy to access way.

@Noahpinion For 1., would it be better to ease the research transfer? Like, make it easier to commercialize the research the college does today? Not disagreeing, just wondering if prioritizing research is second order effect and better positions for vitality beyond the 2030s.

My basic suggestion to college towns is: Focus less on undergrads, and more on getting knowledge workers to move to town. This can be done by: 1. Prioritizing the college's research activities, and 2. Creating a pleasant living environment for remote knowledge workers.

College towns are facing big threats from the decline in undergrad enrollment and tuition spending. But they're still well-positioned to do well in the 2020s and 2030s...IF they're smart about it. noahpinion.substack.com/p/how-college-…

@GergelyOrosz I think I live under a rock. I'd never heard of Linear until @eldh popped up in my timeline this morning. Gorgeous product, would love to see how it woo's those people for whom Jira is a verb.

Needless to say, I'm not affiliated with Linear either. I just notice that lots of founders and startups use them, and engineers rave about them. Of course, the challenge of project management software is cracking the enterprises, and wooing the CFO who doesn't care about UX.

The beauty of not taking any affiliates or sponsorships is that I get to freely speak my mind, without worrying about upsetting someone who pays me money. ClickUp reached out, asking if I would become an affiliate and recommend them. My response:

@eldh How do you determine what's a "large enough" feature to roast? 🍖 And never heard of Linear, but it looks *really* cool!

At Linear we have a pretty lean process, but one thing we do is to try do have “roasts” before releasing any larger feature. We gather the team and do a thorough demo & click-around to find all bugs and annoyances before release. We always find a bunch of things.

Something interesting: Increasing amount of referral business trickling in (as a percentage of all sales). Have always wondered why there isn’t a tech platform out there built to propel friend/family referrals.

@awilkinson We do stand ups (kids are 8, 6, and 2). No set schedule but we meet at least daily - more frequently when getting ready for a big event. Quarterlies wouldn't be effective until the org matures.

Business Nerd Dads: Has anyone build a "Quarterly Family Meeting" structure? I feel like this would be a great habit to get into as my kids grow up. "What do we want as a family?" "What are our goals?" "What's working well? What's not?" Etc. Anyone done this?
